[Suggestion] A Dev Blog to increase visibility for Boards

Premise 1: Boards is in need of more traffic.

Tamat posted this recently.

Premise 2: Part of the reason Boards doesn't receive much traffic because of low visibility.

This is evident from the following:

  • The comments section of Dev blogs and other links from the launcher use Boards
  • These threads get Orders of Magnitude more use than any other threads.
  • Therefore, part of the reason boards have low use, is low visibility.

Premise 3a: Part of the reason Boards doesn't receive much traffic is GD's reluctance to migrate. Premise 3b: GD's main concern about Boards is "It's leddit 2.0"

#Conclusion: A Dev Blog can Solve these Issues

  • It will generate traffic and interest in the platform, ipso facto

  • It can help convince GD that this isn't a reddit clone. How? Content.

I'm talking specifically about content like this. When it's clear that the Boards team is putting time and effort into thinking about the site, everybody knows they're looking to do better than recreate reddit. And what better way to demonstrate all that time and effort than a Dev blog? Especially a dev blog that you can end with, "We're still working on a lot of Boards' features, but we need to know how they'll work when LOTS of people are using them. And for that, we need your help!"

Not to mention, I'd looooove to read about all the behind-the-scenes development that's gone on.

Is Boards advanced enough that you're ready for a big unveiling like this? Not my call. But when it is, I hope you'll consider a dev blog :)
