Why do Boards Exist?

I would think it would be so that the community has a way to communicate with Riot, but looking at the boards, there doesn't seem to be much of that going on.

If you look on the first page of "Gameplay & Balance", there is only one thread with a Rioter response. And that thread is about Bard who has just been revealed. So it isn't about anything really important. Meanwhile, there have been numerous thread asking about the Veigar and Mordekaiser compensation which appear to be heavy nerfs, that have gone unanswered. I will be fair and say that the majority of these threads are "RITO Y U NURPH VEIGAR?" that wouldn't really provide any meaningful discussion. However, there are also threads that are well crafted and that facilitate a meaningful discussion that go unanswered.

And it's not just "Gameplay & Balance" that suffer this problem, but also "Story & Art" and "GD" seem to suffer from a similar problem where important discussions are unanswered.

TLDR: It would be nice if the boards got more meaningful fist bumps.

I thought it was to discuss LoL with each other, not necessarily Rioters...

I was just discussing this with another Rioter yesterday.

It's an interesting question and one that, in my general experience, isn't really posed when it comes to game-specific fora. If you asked a random game dev "Why does your game have boards/forums?" most of us would probably say something along the lines of "Because we're an online game and that's just what you do!".

I would think it would be so that the community has a way to communicate with Riot, but looking at the boards, there doesn't seem to be much of that going on.

Sure, this is one goal. I mean, we have lots of ways to communicate with Players, but the Boards are one of the few places that are uniquely Riot.

Do you believe this is the primary goal though? Is there value in an equal focus on connecting Rioters with Players and on empowering players to more easily connect with each other?

To that point: what are better ways we could help players connect with both each other and Riot here on the boards? (If I can be so bold as to issue a challenge; think beyond "just post moar". I think we all agree that's important ;).)

I'd be really interested in hearing your opinions here. I'm about to jump in some meetings, but will definitely check in on this thread throughout the day.

What if I told you that the percentage of posts that are worth red posts is very low...
