Boards and Avatars

We will not be making a custom avatar system here for a few reasons

As we expand "identity" within League of Legends the boards will likely see benefit from improved options for expression
Within posts, we want the content stand out more than the person who posted the content
We don't want to create another system that's redundant with summoner icons

I can get on board with that reasoning (accidental pun?). I'd rather see continued effort in formatting adjustments and improved moderation over any sort of avatar system, since it's essentially already covered by summoner icons as you mentioned. Thanks for coming in and specifically letting us know where you guys are at on the topic though.

I'm not sure exactly what this means. But maybe I should just get excited for a surprise/unveiling?

Probably not :P I think it just means that with things like match history we'll start having different things that we can share about you in various places.

We're also getting a lot better at making stronger central services so that when you change a setting like summoner icons it will appear everywhere, and you can use the same login everywhere, etc

Yea, this issue is sort of a non-issue for me. I think if they implemented avatars they could just take all the symbols they have as summoner icons and the icons they have for the chat here on the boards and make those the options. That stops the obviously going to happen abuse of custom avatars and expands the options to more things than summoner icons. I could even see them allowing you to have the loading screen splashes of the champions and the skins as avatar options.

Yeah, it's a non-issue for me, too. I just wanted to put my idea out there.

I imagine FEK could implement them like this, though.

A neat feature but definitely not needed.

I do seem to remember people better at forums with custom avatars; even if this avatar on hover was implemented I feel it would slightly help the boards at being a bit more social

FEK's probably going to come here and add avatars, whether we like it or not.

As for myself, I'm pretty indifferent. I don't use FEK (in part because I migrated here pretty quickly). I just like to contribute whenever I have an idea. And I like making mockups. Lots of mockups (you can look at my profile page if you're interested in some of my previous ones).
