For some reason, yes. Apparently the logic is that since you are a member of the community you can vote on yourself just like any other post.

My personal opinion is that we really shouldn't be able to touch our own posts, they should just default at zero. There is no possible situation where someone would downvote him or her self in a legitimate and useful way, especially since we can downvote ourselves twice (+1 to 0, 0 to -1).

An automatic upvote is unnecessary, we wouldn't be posting things if we didn't agree with our own opinion.

Yeah, there's not really a point for it, but at the same time it's not really a problem so it hasn't really been touched. I assume it was done that way out of programming convenience but I cannot confirm.
