Starting something a bit new here guys and gals. In this (potential) series I'm going to stick to Board features and get as many people's ideas on how they would approach it.

Today let's do:

#Post Subscriptions/Favoriting

Focus Questions

If you need help starting on an idea, try answering these questions. Not required by any means, they're just questions I've seen pop up in other posts on the same subject.

  • Access to a Subscribed/Favorited post after marking it. (Where would you go to get to your subscriptions?)
  • Subscription limit?
  • Show OP how many have subscribed? Show all readers?
  • Alert subscribers to what? (changes, changes above a word count, all comments, some comments, allow OP to hit a button are all possibilities)
  • How have other sites done this?

Scope

Keep it this this feature only people, I think we can all agree the Boards are not finished and a lot can be worked on. Do your best to keep it to this feature only, and giving feedback to other people's ideas as well. Poke holes where you can! It'll help the idea out in the long run!

Personally, I am all for subscriptions. I think that the best way to find your subscriptions would be to make a new icon to go up with the reply alert and moderator action alert that lets you know whenever there is a new post to a thread you've subscribed to.

  • Subscription limit?

I say no, because if someone subscribes to too much threads they'll feel overwhelmed with the amount of notifications coming in and then will probably only subscribe to threads they actually need to follow.

  • Show OP how many have subscribed? Show all readers?

That be detrimental to the system. People would then only care whether other subscribed to their thread. So no,don't make it available at all. (kinda like another feature we've talked about, eh?)

  • Alert subscribers to what? (changes, changes above a word count, all comments, some comments, allow OP to hit a button are all possibilities)

The only thing I would care about are new post alerts, but you could also have it so that if a post is edited then you would be notified.

  • How have other sites done this?

Not really the best question, since this kind of feature is a case-by-case kind of thing. Some forums are made in different codes, some forums are much more expansive than others, and some forums aren't a feature to a bigger site (ie, these forums are a feature on the League site, while a forum like 4chan is just there).
