Positive implications of an alert message
One thing that I've thought could be improved since the Boards update is the whole idea of the updates system being only for moderation activity. Now we could be here all day about how to do moderation right and what's good and bad about moderation now, but I'm talking about the alert system itself. As it stands right now, getting a notice there specifically means something's been deleted, and the idea that a feature is there in the open just for telling you something negative gives off the wrong vibe imho.
Easy way to fix it though, looking for other actions that aren't bad that can be there as well. Pinning, for example. If a post of yours is pinned as PotD you could get alert saying [X] post has been pinned. That's it. It's a positive message about admin/mod activity and gives the alert feature a more neutral stance. There could be separate alerts for a Rioter response within one of your threads (maybe to a comment that isn't necessarily yours) or maybe even activity spikes to help highlight active threads that may be a bit old. Just thinking out loud here.
But at the end of the day, I would rather see a system feature not be used specifically as if the Boards were made expecting to have to tell you bad news, it starts the whole thing off on the wrong foot. Adding more positive possibilities, even ones with small chance, sets the mood a bit lighter.
