My two cents, Forum Beta Feedback

Hello, just wanted to give my general "what's good, what's not" feedback on the beta forum set-up.

Replies
I like the idea of upvoted comments floating to the top, along with eventual decay and what-not. It makes navigating really popular posts easier, as in there isn't 120+ pages of replies if a red stops by. One thing I would like to suggest though is, by default, to minimize replies to replies, and replies to replies to replies, etc. I get a good ways down a page of replies and it's still on the conversation from the first comment!

Account Tool
Love this, and the idea of keeping values on an account to make it easier to link your other material and have others look at the general quality of replies, etc. Seen similar features on other game forums such as Warframe. That being said, if this version of the forums becomes more popular I could see the ability to choose what you get updated on being asked for by frequent forum goers.

Red Tracker Smoother and well done, but I don't really understand the point of previewing the red posts. Without the context most posts seem random until you jump to it. Why not just use a tool similar to old forums?

Sub-communities
Need more, current tool good, I speak well maybe.

Eye-strain
Seen this complaint a bit, and although I don't really have the same thing happen to me, can we tone down the white a little? Possibly to not-white or off-white color? I understand it's easier for contrast to the text but it makes it very hard to ninja forum stalk during class when the professor shuts off the lights for a presentation. :) Seriously though, it is very bright.

Preview Post
Comparatively to many other game forum I've been to I like this version of a post preview the most. The entire idea is also a good one, but I think an option for this would probably be a good investment as well. I know from experience many do not share my opinion on post previews and would prefer more writing space.

Post Formatting
I can't say I've posted enough on the old forums to have a good comparison, but I will say the post formatting for this is a bit tricky. I've gotten most of it down now (as seen in this post) but some features like the numbering isn't very intuitive. The use of white-space for line formatting is also a bit difficult but makes the code look nicer so that's just a matter of opinion imho.

Note: If it is not already obvious I do not have a gratuitous amount of programming or formatting experience, so I don't have a "use this system" or "this code is better" remark.

Adding Files
Don't like the new interface for added files, nothing wrong with the good old add/browse files button. However, I do see hints of catering to mobile devices with the increased "hit-box" of file links and the ability to drag and drop to add files so while I have my opinion I see practicality which I approve of.

Odds and Ends

  1. Can we have the ability to change our posts title in case we make a typo or something? I realize it can be abused but it would be a great QoL thing, possibly a limited number of changes?
  2. Color! While I cringe at the seizure inducing possibility some people will bring I would love to see some font color options, even just one additional color, like red.
  3. Possibly add current ranked status to forum identity? There's a lot of stuff you can play with on the profile option, you could also add how many years they've been playing, instead of un-explained "senior" and "junior" members.
  4. Forum participation rewards! I know there have been a lot of possibilities for rewards to be handed out, and that icons have become the stereotypical "gold star", but since we have account tracking now couldn't that mean you could reward good feedback and generally great forum behavior and contribution with an icon or two? I have no idea how hard that would be to code, implement, etc. but I'm just tossing the idea out there.

Thank for reading and good luck on your future games all!

I might be misunderstanding you, but in the current system you can very quickly do this on your own by clicking the little minus sign next to replies to minimize them. By default everything is shown, but it's very easy to just click the minuses as you go down to compress everything!

That being said, if this version of the forums becomes more popular I could see the ability to choose what you get updated on being asked for by frequent forum goers.

I think they're working on this, it's a pretty heavily requested feature.

Again, might be misunderstanding, but if you click Show Parent you can see exactly what the Rioter is replying to.

Haha, what subforums would you like to see? I feel like a lot of the basics are covered but there could be some useful things added as well. The goal is to keep the communities as dense as possible so you don't segment the population too much while still having each community have a specific function.

Can we tone down the white a little?

Judging by how often I see this concern they might consider it. Personally I have no issues with the color scheme though so...

I know from experience many do not share my opinion on post previews and would prefer more writing space.

I agree, especially for writing longer threads. I don't necessarily have an issue with the current system, but yeah it'd make things much easier if there was more space.

Post Formatting

Personally I find it to be a ton easier than the current forums since you can format on the fly instead of having to highlight things or type in long code like the way quoting worked.

Can we have the ability to change our posts title in case we make a typo or something? I realize it can be abused but it would be a great QoL thing, possibly a limited number of changes?

+1, It's really frustrating to accidentally make a typo in your title and be unable to fix it.

Color! While I cringe at the seizure inducing possibility some people will bring I would love to see some font color options, even just one additional color, like red.

Eh...I feel like bold and normal is enough, but maybe. People would abuse the hell out of it though, do you remember when they tried allowing players to change the size of their in-game statuses? shiver

Possibly add current ranked status to forum identity? There's a lot of stuff you can play with on the profile option, you could also add how many years they've been playing, instead of un-explained "senior" and "junior" members.

There's a ton they can do in this space, and I'm hoping they come up with some interesting things. Senior and Junior member really doesn't say much, as you mentioned.

K so do you mean rewards for in-game, rewards on the forums, or both? In general I like the idea but it'd be tricky to implement. What I'm really hoping is that Riot considers (and hopefully uses) the suggestion many people including myself have posted about player moderators/forum moderators. There's basically no higher incentive besides money to be as good a person as you can be in my opinion, and that'd be a really healthy top tier reward for the creme de la creme.
