The voting system will only get worse.

According to Riots knowledge the boards are growing in size after the huge hit the community took after GD was nerfed. (I have my own assumptions as to why I am skeptible about this but that is for another time.)

We are already beginning to see the trend on the most upvoted item. It's the circle jerk. The same circle jerk you were all warned of. It's a communities growing echo chamber of hate that is funneled into upvotes. Don't get me wrong there can be some love to. The skins department has plenty of upvotes to get a few random threads in a day to the front page, but you can't say there is variety.

This is what happens in these types of formats. Organized pitchforks if you will.

Expect more posts attacking riot. This format condones that type of behavior. Expect more spam. This format condoes that type of behavior. Expect less discussion. It will not be voted and it will be ignored. There will be less quality. There will be less depth.

It's only going to get worse. This community was probably the least ready for a reddit style. Now you gave the clowns of GD a way to lock down the main discussion with vitrol. And don't tell me the new topic button is an option. Unless you enjoy reading through thousands of LF TEAM or LCS FANTASY threads.

The thing is, the posters using the format are beginning to notice this trend as well:

I try that. Those posts tend not to get upvoted and viewed at all; my latest attempt did not receive a single comment. Meanwhile, the 'OMG RITO SUCKS FIRE EVERYBODY' threads get tons of upvotes. It's easy to say 'be the change you want to see in life!' but a single person tends not to cause much of an impact, especially online.

There have been quite a few threads like this, but they pretty much get ignored due to how the reddit styled forums work. Only the "OMG RAGE FACE, WHY IS SONA GETTING NERFED AGAIN AND ZED IS HEALTHY???" threads are getting upvoted because everyone is so fucking annoyed by the lack of communication from the balance team.

Unless riot begins to quell the storm brewing you will only see more posts like these. Take my opinion for what you will, its not a fact, just my interpretation on how forums operate. I have been active on these types of discussion for a better part of my own life and am simply using my personal experience to relay my opinion.

It doesn't promote discussion, it promotes easily consumed soundbites that please us. Also it kind of sucks aesthetically.

I agree with you, but not necessarily for the reasons you've given. I think thread voting is actually fine, the more people that participate the more accurate it'll get.

Comment voting, however, is fundamentally flawed. Threads with over 50 responses become extremely difficult to follow, and over 200 it's basically impossible. Due to this fact, the larger the community gets the harder it will be to follow discussions, and it really doesn't seem like this can scale properly. It's very easy to use votes improperly (voting on content just to make your content more visible) or decide not to vote because of the way it affects sorting, and no amount of Riot asking us to vote will change those mechanics.

lol this kid got downvoted after using her parents pc while they were away, and somehow thinks an entire community = circlejerk.

Butthurt much? Guess the same circle jerk upvoted you, uh?

Are you actually expecting riot to have insight on the future?
