The underlying cause of toxcity? A personal perspective

TL;DR A lack of a positive social life (or general unhappiness) IRL may be a source of inner demons manifesting themselves during gameplay lashing out on others.

  • I'm not formal nor do I express my thoughts very well but I'll try my best. Speaking from personal experience, I believe the underlying cause of toxicity is connected to being socially inept. How do we see people in general? What is our outlook/attitude about life? Have we been abused (not in-game) in the past IRL? Whether it's mentally/emotionally. I'm not saying this is THE cause nor the ONLY reason for toxicity but is a good indicator. Psychologically.

  • I do label myself as a loner IRL. Socially awkward. Introvert. Offended & hurt by those I've interacted whom I trusted. So for me personally, it is a matter of trust, as well as trying to cope with it & escaping stress by playing games like League. I felt like a failure in life so I don't want to be a failure in League either. Call me tryhard but I play to win. I guess I'm trying to prove to myself I am a winner. Perhaps it sounds contradictory that I'm playing a team game like League when I'm not a people-person. I love watching League (eSports, Twitch) and love everything about League gameplay itself. ...

Sorry, got distracted now I lost my train of thought. I hope this somehow makes sense!

You're not alone, if i were to suggest something. Quite literally join a community of gamers, and just kinda interact over a shared aspect of life that you all share.

It'll start small, but eventually you'll begin to warm up to people and who knows maybe break the Shell

introverts rock

Trying to explain the cause of toxicity is like explaining the meaning of life. There are way too many possible scenarios and not a single instance offers a definite answer.

The single biggest factor in toxicity is and always will be the ranking system in place. You are punished for teammates playing poorly, AFKing, feeding, trolling, ragequitting.. you get the idea. If people are punished for the actions of other people, this game will always be considered toxic.

Uh.. Idk

Pretty sure most of the time people just want to blame someone else for a loss (deservingly or not), or just plain don't like them.
