But it's not matchmaking that did that - it was those individual people deciding to play that game. The matchmaking system has no way of knowing that they'd pick leona/tryndamere in those roles, as champion selection is after matchmaking even happens.
Furthermore, it still does not excuse being toxic and/or intentionally feeding.

It's not irrelevant. You were punished based on your behavior alone, and while their behavior was also poor that still doesn't excuse your own poor behavior. I would suggest taking this time to work on your behavior as any little offense without significant behavioral improvement will result in a permaban.

Gameplay related offenses when proven to be on purpose are assigned a 14-day ban as the first punishment. In case you don't believe me on this point here are two examples of gameplay trolls being banned. Yes it's just two examples, but it proves that they do get punished.

If your neighbor sets your house on fire, do you go set his on fire? No, you call the police and the fire, and they come fight the fire/arrest the neighbor. Likewise, you mute/report, and Riot will deal with the trolls. But once you set his house on fire, the police, when they come, will deal with both of you.
In your example: Riot puts tape over the hole they can see - it’s much easier to detect/punish toxic chat. While they do that, they’re looking for the holes they can’t see - and patching them. They’re patching every hole though - not just the ones they can’t see.
