Actual PSA: Stop Communicating

PSA: You did not get banned for "defending myself"

After studying the linked post, my own support logs, and my most recent chat restriction, I have a real PSA for the frustrated players with a habit of trying to fight back against trolls:

Limit it to one statement.

As long as you avoid trigger words like 'kill yourself' (actually toxic, btw), 'Report', 'ban', etc, Riot's system ACTUALLY punishes you for typing a lot of text. Review any of the various punishment alerts posted in this section and you'll see a massive pattern- nobody is punished for just three or four posts in chat, no matter what words they use. By contrast, a lot of the content in punishment logs is completely innocuous or has to do with the game in question. Flat out, Riot's bot is biased against players who type a lot, no matter what they type. I believe this is a secret that a lot of trolls have long since caught on to, explaining why they maintain radio silence even as they ruin your game, aside from one or two taunts at the very most!

Well, if you're browsing this board, you've probably been unjustly punished for trying to fight back against this disgusting plague that Riot has empowered with such a simpleminded bot. Sorry, folks, but the crusade is over. Righteous anger is dead. If you've ever been reminded by a Rioter that you can 'totally disable chat', this is why- their stance isn't against players who actively ruin games for others, but against us. Those who type. Those who, 99% of the time, use our words to keep their team on one page, offer advice, or put forward tactics; if even 1% of that is frustrated outbursts, we'll be punished, again and again. Riot doesn't care what you say, or who you say it to; they simply want to punish you for talking.

This is 100% untrue. I've seen logs as short as "kys, Graves" earn an immediate 14-day punishment, and logs of just 1-2 sentences of abuse get punishments. Longer logs of "seemingly innocuous" stuff can just earn a punishment because too much minor harassment BECOMES toxic through repetition, so we see a lot of long logs where someone is just going a little too hard on their allies.

ehhh, not sure your hypothesis is accurate. I've had people write mini novels while debating one another. I've done it myself. The point is we disagreed but didn't step over any lines. I've been doing this since season 3 without a single punishment. You can disagree with teammates without stepping over the line. No different than debates in person. It's just understanding how to communicate in a healthy way.

Your personal bias is showing...

In conclusion, please don't misuse the PSA tag. You have anecdotal evidence at best, nothing concrete.
