People Always Saying Supports are Intent Feed

I was playing Thresh in ranked, and I die to save 3 people who got caught out by flaying backwards, tanking, etc. since my lantern can only help 1 person. This happens over and over again where I die to save my team from death because they keep trying to fight a fed Quinn, and the game continues at a standstill until our Vayne afk's and we lose. At the end of the game I have a lot of deaths, because in every fight i have to tank and block the enemy from killing our carries. My entire team reports me because I was "intent feeding" when in reality if I had just left them to die the enemy team would have 3 times the amount of kills as they did in actuality. Should I just stop maining support with this kind of attitude from everyone else?
