I finally found relief and an amusing reason to mute toxic players.

It's simply like this. Toxic players talk type to much, so when you mute them, you can tell that they're just spam pinging you and calling you bad all game while you are not receiving any of that because they've been muted.

I muted a salty the other day that spam pinged me. So after like 20 minutes of gameplay I unmute to see what's going on and she still kept pinging and talking. So 20 minutes she's been waisting her time hehe.

Your team has to endure it though. I usually tell them I'm going to full mute them (and obviously follow through with it). Hopefully that will save the rest of my team's sanity.

Telling them doesn't usually change the situation. I did something similar a long time back (it was during the nemesis draft iirc, them were some loooooooong games). Told a player I was muting them, and muted them, but that player kept on talking...my teammates confirmed this in post game chat.

Now, when I mute I usually don't even bother telling them.

Telling them that might also be considered negative behavior/harassment. I just mute them and report them after the match, without them ever getting another word from me. Talking to them is usually just waste of time and it might even get you punished if you aren't careful with your words. "Muted" alone can be considered negative and thus potentially gets you punished.

It is neither negative nor harassment to tell them just once they are muted in hope that they will shut the hell up. They can report me all they want. I won't see even a warning anytime soon lol.

Just one little thing; There are no warnings in the system anymore. You either get punished, or you don't. You don't get a warning. That was removed, because Riot got too many questions to their support about them (as far as I understood the reasoning when that happened.)

Also, many of the "Why was I punished" threads here at the boards have these "Muted" lines there and many consider them to be part of the toxicity. Maybe one such line alone won't get you punished, but it does contribute to getting a punishment. It might also contribute as a slowing / negating factor for honor progress if you are reported.

I have an understanding of the IFS and I've played since Season 3. I know when the warnings was removed (it went away around the time the Tribunal went away). I was just giving a metaphorical example (maybe a bad one). I am progressing the honor ladder just fine for the casual way I play the game of late.

Perhaps we can look at it from a risk management factor. I'm willing to take a chance of it being contribute to very tiny amount of whatever negative impact you think it will make (provided I even get reported in the first place, which I doubt) on my account in return for a chance that may save my team sanity from an flamer.

It's not your responsibility to look out for your team. They also have mute buttons and are welcome to use them.

This is a team game. It is in my best interest if the team remains on point in the game and not get distracted by a flaming textbox. If it even gives me the smallest of chance to ensure that, there is nothing wrong with it nor do I find anything inherently "toxic" about it. There is not a lot to lose.

I find it funny when I mute any player types excessive arguments in chat or when they spam emotes, the game just shows them sitting there doing nothing. Because in the end, those actions really mean nothing.

I actually do something pretty sneaky, too. If someone is being really rude in a game, I'll let them know they are bothering me and that it would be nice if they could chill out. If it doesn't look like they are I tell them I'm going to mute them so we can keep playing and to please use pings if they have anything to tell me, but I don't mute them. The very idea that I'm not listening to them is often enough to get them to settle down, and I don't rise to any nonsense in chat so they actually think I did mute them but I can also see any important stuff (like calls or timers) they type in chat.
