Getting reported for playing a non-meta pick/build or jg not winning lane, am I in the wrong?

So playing league I have a habit of finding non-meta picks that I enjoy to play. Last year I carried myself to gold mostly playing AP naut mid-lane (before rework/item changes even).

This year I have been finding and enjoying playing ad Bard jungle. He doesn't start off strong but late game with lots of chimes and good farm he can be brutal and that's why I enjoy him, jg seems the best because it allows you to collect chimes the quickest and fastest without having to leave your bot lane open if you play him support, that's why I think it works ok.

The problem is that people assume I'm trolling, I try to explain I'm not. However that doesn't stop people from going off their rocker and blaming me for things. They lose their lane, they get camped by the other jungle, they blame me instead of warding or playing it safe.

I literally just played a game like this, the top/bottom lane were both extremely pissed at me all game from the start, calling me troll an dthings, even went as far at the end for one of them to say they hope I'm in a car crash that's fatal.

Is it wrong of me to play this kind of thing in ranked?

My advice is to do exactly the same thing you expect from your team: Keep an open mind. Don't just pick off-meta for the sake of picking off-meta and, if you're further down in the pick order, be a teamplayer and pick what your team needs.

I enjoy off meta picks, but if you're picking AP Bard jungle in my ranked match 2 few things come to mind:

  1. Team Composition. If Bard doesn't fill the need then I don't want to see him regardless if he's your main

  2. You can be rest assured I'm going to OPgg you faster than a speeding bullet and if your KDA isn't over +3.5 and your win rate is under 65% I'm not giving your AP Bard jungle a chance sorry. I'm fine with this in Normal matches though.

Technically you're in the wrong. Off meta champs are usually considered off meta because they're inefficient for the role, either because you aren't utilizing that champ's strengths to the fullest (Lane Nunu) or you aren't fulfilling your lane/role's job (Tank mid, when your team needed Bursty wave clear).

However it's certainly not wrong in the sense that you'd be reported for it.

I went 6-3 by the end, the lucian was 5-9, and Fiora literally "gave up" and sit in base , she was 2 levels lower than I was by the time the game ended.

I just received email that I am now 25-game chat restricted , literally just a couple minutes after this game.

That's with them both telling me things like, "Your mom must hav esmoked when you were born." and "I hope you're in a car crash that's fatal."

I did not feed the other team or do anything, they just blamed me cause they lost their lane, lucian/ali vs Morg and MF and they kept losing fights to them and wouldn't play safe.

There are a lot of non-meta picks that can dominate the rift because people don't have enough experience against them to know how to counter them.

Panth is a good example at the moment.

Just ignore them. They can report u all they want, u cant get punished for fake reports. Pick what you want, play how u want. Just do your best.

You expect people to treat you the same when you probably lose their game:)..even if you don't break the rules..you lost their game:)

dont worry. you 100% won't get banned.

in fact i go off pick all the time and purposely troll, ignore pick order, pick up smite to steal buffs and never got banned after 100's of games in season 5

if I can't get banned for f'ing around and making my team lose, you won't get banned for playing and trying to actually win.

besides, play diversity is something riot has always advocated. their entire philosophy supports players like you who play differently.

Kind of? Playing off meta isn't punishable necessarily but refusing to communicate and cooperate with your team certainly is.

There was a guy who kinda invented AP tryndamere and used it to climb until it got nerfed then tried to find the next sleeper op off Meta build, he found morde jungle (pre rework) and would play it every game despite his teammates complaints, he eventually got banned for it in a very close tribunal case.

You can play what you want but if your team is very clearly communicating to you that your pick is not something they're comfortable with then you gotta make a call, it's a grey area

the champ is fine but what it does to your team is not fine. you will lose games/get trolled/reported not because you are doing bad but because you put your team on tilt taking off-meta picks

yes you are definitely in the wrong when you queue up you are expected to play what will help the team the most. not what makes you entertained

i generally wouldnt do that in ranked cause if people assume your torlling and get mad, they clearly aren't focused on the game so you sorta lose form the start. but if you don't care about that then sure play it. Just not in my games

As far as I know you're not in the wrong, and as long as you aren't trash and feeding it doesn't matter if it's in ranked or not, tbh I've been thinking about getting bard and trying him jungle cause the ease of getting chimes I feel like end game he could be a real wrecking force

Talk with your team. If they don't want you to do it don't do it.

Bard is a bad champ to play in solo que. Don't get me wrong he can be extremely beastly, just look at Matt on liquid in the NALCS. That being said he takes good communication and effective teamwork to play to his full potential. His abilities are meant to bring utility to your team, the problem is in solo que you often lack that communication and cohesiveness. If you insist on playing bard though make sure you communicate before that match on how you are going to use your ultimate.

I don't care if you pick something non meta. I care if you are a habitual feeder. And hope that Riot, or so they claimed near the end of last year. Will eventually ban you for doing so.
