The mute button is not an excuse to be a verbally abusive jerk. Never has been, never will be.

From the Tribunal FAQ:

What's the point of having a language filter if I can get banned for 'adult' language? We aren't out to punish players who use adult language; in fact, very few players are ever banned for saying stuff like "f***, I missed that skill shot" or "damn, fing close game!" However, the language filter is not an excuse to verbally abuse someone in the game. When you verbally abuse or harass someone by calling them "fing *****" or "ngger noob", that's when you've crossed the line and will be punished by the Tribunal. I've said this before and I'll say it again, we aren't trying to clean online games of adult language; we're trying to reform or get rid of jerks who like to verbally abuse and harass other players.

When you force someone to make the choice to mute you, then you've done something wrong. You're right in that you can technically say anything you want, but just because you can doesn't mean that you should. Much like others have the choice not to read what you say, you also have the choice to not hit "Enter" after typing out your rage and insults in the chat.

This, whenever I get really angry in game, I type Up a massive rage and then erase it and play as if bothing happened, relieves stress just as effectively, but won't get you reported

You're allowed to disagree. And you don't have to report people for it if you think it's not something they should be punished for. It's actually a bit commendable to be able to just ignore what's said (whether you choose to mute the player or not).

But that still doesn't change Riot's official stance, and that people will still be punished for such things. You can just rest easily knowing you didn't contribute to those bans at all, I guess.

Clicking the mute button is not a negative experience. If you have to click the mute button you have already had a negative experience.

I agree, I just think the time spent monitoring toxicity could be applied to MANY other areas that would improve the community.

Such as? I mean, the behavior team isn't the same as the balance team, and the process is more and more automated, meaning that for the initial investment of time, they are talking about shutting down feeders in the first 15 minutes of a game, just out and out banned. So it's not like this is something a ways off, we should see a distinct shift in toxic gameplay very soon.

Humm why shouldn't Riot ban people for being Toxic ? Mute button is not the I can say anything I want button ! It is there so people can stop listening to toxic people and not a reason to be Toxic..

It has been said many times why you Should Report this and Why it is punished,,,thanks for the daily reminder though...gives people a chance to inform new players just why they should not be Rude.

You don't have to see everything that happened in the game. You are judged on the merits of your own behavior, not everyone else's. Their actions can make your reactions understandable, but that doesn't make them acceptable.

That chat log is absolutely ban-worthy, and also almost certainly not the only game that led up to your ban.

I would much rather have someone rage uncontrollably and me just mute them than deal with someone who types nothing but compliments and intentionally loses games

I understand that, and Riot is working on ways to detect that too. However, understand that detecting intentional trolling is more difficult than detecting verbal abuse in the chat. ZIelmann did a good job in explaining this kind of problem in the following post in another thread:

"It's because of the ease of detection/confirmation. Seriously. They can have automated systems in place that are capable of catching certain toxicity in the chat. And then a case can very easily be made out of player reports for verbal abuse/harassment which can be manually reviewed. These cases just show chat logs and usually generic post-game info (scores, builds, etc.). It's pretty easy to read through several sample chat logs and see that a player is routinely toxic in chat, and hand out a ban for that.

In-game actions are more difficult. Fortunately, they can automatically detect leaves and AFKs (including those who walk in circles in the base to try to evade the system, but don't actually do anything). When players report for other types of in-game behavior, it's a considerably more difficult case for review. From the information that's easily-accessible, you can easily catch the mob boots + 5x zeals Veigar that's 0/15/0 with 2 CS. Cases where a player announces that they're feeding now, and they proceed to die 3 times in the next couple minutes are also pretty straightforward. But more nuanced situations, like an ADC who is 10/3 disagreeing with an action by their allies, and intentionally feeding 3 kills in a row to make a point, though not actually announcing it in chat, is much more difficult to catch. You'd have to basically rewatch entire games to confirm these.

That isn't to say reports for such behavior are meaningless, though. If a player is regularly doing this, and a lot of people report them for it, it will trigger a more in-depth investigation of the player, which will likely lead to eventual punishment. But this relies on consistent negative behavior from that player, as well as consistent reports from others in the game. Preferably with comments providing context to the report so the reviewer knows what to look for."

People ruin it further by taking the context of the fight out of context. People have to remember there's not just two people in an argument. It's you, the other guy, and 3 others who are getting angry and upset that you both are ruining their game.

It seems to me all the claiming things were taken out of context are people thinking they should be allowed to retaliate or that they felt justified in saying what ever they did. A lot of people seem to think that only 1 person can be the problem, usually the person who started it or was the worst. But any number of people can be a part of the problem.

That is not FRITOS take on it, i have countless people that have been reported for much much worse things still arent banned and playing well and fine. SO no they dont punish everyone involved just whoever they think was the worst?

That is exactly Riot's take on it.

Cases take time to build and punishments are rarely based on 1 game. So if 2 people are toxic and only 1 was punished doesn't mean that 1 got away with it. Just that he hasn't A) been reported enough to actually trigger a review B)simply hadn't done enough yet to warrant a punishment. Just because someone wasn't punished doesn't mean that game wasn't a mark against them.

Someone else getting away with something doesn't mean you should let the ones you catch get away anyway.

I feel that these passages from Ulanopo's Knowledge Base are appropriate here:

If you kids report and punish things like this, youre going to be in trouble when you get out in the real world.

This is a subset of the oversensitivity argument, but I feel it warrants separate treatment.

You're making the highly unwarranted assumption that the people who punish for "noob" lack real-world experiences. If you were to ask the TBI regulars, you would find that almost all of us are at least in their late 20's, if not significantly older. Most of us have at least undergraduate degrees. So, this idea that we're all naive little children is more than a little silly.

Also, we know that professional players dislike people who spend their time typing because math. Not only are the report rates for the highest tiers not significantly lower than anywhere else (this from Lyte), but the pros know how that kind of behavior affects play. Someone who is on tilt is throwing the game just as much as the person who is playing poorly.

The truth of the matter is that the loose cannons end up having their misbehavior overshadow their skill. Look at Dennis Rodman. There has never been a better rebounder. Ever. But his legacy is not that he was basically a human vacuum. No, it's that he was out of control, both on and off the court.

In short, this is a stupid argument if you know anything about the people who are reporting and punishing you.

People who report are simply being oversensitive. The mute button exists for a reason.

Lets start with the Riot quote on this (link (http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?p=30696571#post30696571)):

Simply put, Riot says no. You can scream and cry all you want, but it is their house and their rules.

With that out of the way, I think the topic deserves some further discussion. The theory is that, if people resolved to care less, then they would be happier. I often refer to this as Argument from Stoicism and I think it is a fairly weak philosophy because it places the burden on the person being expected to endure the behavior rather than the person exhibiting the behavior. You should be able to handle it is just a flimsy excuse for being a bully or a jerk. I have to be the bigger man so that you can do whatever you want? That hardly seems fair.

There is also the issue of how I spend my limited free time. Like most people, I am constantly required to make value judgments between the different forms of entertainment that are available to me and, let's be honest, we live in an age of nearly limitless entertainment options. If I'm having a bad day in League, I can just fire up Steam and play a whole bunch of games that don't require me to put up with someone's BS.

This is not an issue of weakness or thin-skin; it's a question of choosing activities that don't leave me feeling frustrated and angry. Too many >of those experiences and I'll just find something else to do. Riot knows this.

Moderation in this joke of a pixel planet is a complete joke. The amount of butt hurt from players over stupid shit is even worse. Lyte needs to be let go for his fails in the reform department. FRITO just leaches money and half ass cleans ANYTHING up around here.

I don't think its at all a big deal, but it is negative none the less. Especially coupled with how the rest of the chat is. If you want to surrender then start a vote. If it fails and you want to explain why the team should vote yes then go for it. But just saying ff is useless and more often than not used just as a way to express that you have given up.

You also chose to focus on the least important part of my post for some reason.

Okay how is telling someone to "stfu and uninstall" in any way helpful or constructive? Answer: it's not. Everything in this chat log was negative (aside from maybe the 8/12, but given the chat logs you've posted I think it's safe to assume that you were trying to be a jerk with that too). In order to get permabanned you have to have gotten prior punishments and ignored them. Also, though it's rare Riot has been known to escalate punishments to higher tiers depending on the severity of the offense in question, which given this chat log it's not that crazy to guess that that's what happened to you here.

Like the old saying goes "If you have nothing nice to say then don't say it at all".

Trolling is actually way more fun and watching people rage is highly entertaining, least my videos are getting more upvotes :)

FRITO wont see another dime from me .. but you can bet your sweet ass I am gonna piss some people off before the day is done.

Except this isn't a chat ban, it's an account ban, and a permanent one at that.

You chose to be a jerk to people. You chose to troll when you didn't get your way. You chose to ignore your prior warnings telling you to shape up or ship out. You chose to rage on the forums and ignore the people who are trying to explain to you why you got banned.

Im not going to tell you that your opinion is wrong, but you should know that neither Riot nor the majority of the community agrees with you. This is evidenced by the fact that the community has always consistently punished verbal toxicity. There may be some minor disagreement over certain words and phrases, but the overwhelming consensus is that it isnt welcome here.

Also, you arent ever going to get a pass on X because Y is worse. We'll still punish you all day for ANY toxicity. Get used to it.
