Why is the community so eager to jump on the "toxic" bandwagon

I remember the days of old, where banter flowed regularly and the crybabies were rare.

Now, as soon as someone says something that isn't super friendly with rainbows and buttercups there is a chorus of "Toxic, reported"

Maybe the reason people think League is so toxic is because it is constantly mislabeled?

What happened?

I notice a few trends about all these post complaining about getting reported for toxic behavior.

One: They have been banned for being toxic before. Two: They usually have the mindset of a spoiled 12 year old.

Safespace nerds overused toxicity to the point that you're either toxic or you aren't.

It's the emotionally stunted people who are asking for a safe space. It's just that they're asking for their privilege to be rude and mean to be restored. That's what this is about, really: privilege.

It used to be varying degrees when they actually had a decent punishment system.

That's because you're intentionally misrepresenting the IFS. There aren't fewer steps because people are more sensitive - and I would argue whether or not that's a bad thing even if they were. There are fewer steps because Riot's data shows that people are either capable of change or they aren't. There is very little middle ground.

So, when you drive away business, they remove you from the community. You get limited opportunities to clean up your act, but that's it.

The tribunal was better because it allowed for multiple people to read the comments in context, rather than some sweaty nerd crying because someone called him bad and a robot can decide.

That's an entirely different argument from the one the OP is making. You're saying you have different priorities from Riot and wish they would put more effort into things like FeederBuster. That's a discussion we can have.

The OP is wishing for a magical time that never really existed and has become less and less true over the last 30 years. It's not that people are more sensitive. It's that we have come to recognize that corrosive privilege and no longer pay it heed. My 95-year old grandmother still refers to Brazil nuts as "#$%&^* toes", even though she understands that it's offensive and racist. On the other hand, everyone in my office knows it's an automatic 2-week suspension for dropping that bomb, regardless of the circumstances.

Times change. The OP needs to figure that out.

I have been banned multiple times for actual toxic behaviour, that is why it pisses me off when people who are harmless get harassed and abused by people calling them toxic. They will say one thing when they outplay their opponent and for the rest of the match they will be bullied and threatened with reports for a harmless remark.

They hate toxicity so much they become toxic over slight things.

Its exactly like the lefties at the moment, claiming to be so against racism that they become racist themselves.

People started to take advantage of it. I can guarantee most people arent always like how you posted since ive been playing for 6+ years and rarely see people call for reports that isnt for overly toxic people. Small banter is fine, the moment you make death threats or wishing cancer/disabilities on someone over a damn video game is where you cross the line.

the problem is that's not whats happening, people are being banned for things like "shut the fuck up" or asking for reports, or even just being sarcastic/passive aggressive

There is a difference between competitive banters, and just flat out being salty. They may sound similar in text, but the contexts are different. Banters usually come off as being sarcastic or at least funny in some way and they know when to post as well as when to stop, and salty comments are not that.

What people hate is the salt, not the banter.

There are also cases where one could fail at bantering and it comes off as being bitter instead, then well.... know how/when to banter without being seen as a bumhole due to incorrect execution.

Its probably just an age thing. Alot of young people who never played online games before play League, where they are taught that anyone saying anything that they do not like is "toxic"
