Compassion and success

Our community should give this a try. I benefit from meditation as well from practicing compassion but I can be better. I should consider this the next time I find myself angry with fellow players of this game, because I'm not immune from the occasional attack of toxcity.

Keep an open mind and give it read.

I fully believe in being compassionate towards others.

However, I also believe in banning toxic morons who make this game a living hell for others, because compassion is not something that any sentient being is automatically deserving of, its something that is EARNED, same as respect.

I fully agree with you. My intent wasn't to negate the punishment system.

Just looking to foster civility and looking for ways to help suggest how we as a community can lessen toxcity overall.

Greatly appreciated! Your efforts do not fall on deaf ears, friend.

Respect is earned, however common decency is owed.

Decency is owed to those who are decent themselves.

I do not find it decent to punch people in the face.

However, if someone attacked me on the streets, I would punch him without a moments hesitation.

Physical violence should not be compared to verbal violence. Especially when you have a mute button.

Yes, it's shitty when others are toxic to us, but retaliating and fighting fire with fire is out of line.

I am not. You are missing the point.

Decency is, similar to respect, dependent on the actions of more than one person.

It is not something that can be taken for granted.

If we do not set an example for those less civil than us, how do we expect them to ever know better?

Even though I've failed meaning I retaliated I agree with you here. My goal is not to respond, because during a competitive match is not the proper time to try to correct toxcity.

All measures are reactionary in game. But I can take the initiative by posting my ideas here.

If we set a civil example even in the face of people who intentionally do not, we open ourselves up for defeat.

Its the same with tolerance, and I quote Benjamin Franklin: "In defense of Tolerance, Intolerance cannot be tolerated."

I understand your point.

However let me clarify; I think common decency is owed, until disrespect has been shown by the other party. At that point I think that they shouldn't be engaged with and instead just muted and reported.

My point is it is owed at the start, and can be lost. Just like any privilege.

  1. Use common human decency towards others in the Rift
  2. If compassion is met with hostility, shut them up not by talking back, but by winning the game (or mute, whichever suits you) P.S. No need to show them up post game if you win either. Just let your action/result speak for itself
  3. If the game is lost, know that the words Mr. Anonymous behind a computer screen can't hurt you unless you let them. Take the loss in grace
  4. Repeat from Step 1.
