I'm going to be 41 soon.. Never was into Anime, but I by no means am against it. When and why do people care so much if this games has models that are considered Anime looking or not?

I don't understand why people call someone a weeb like they are less of a person for liking Anime.

Is it Xenophobic? Or is it more Fanboys and Girls vs. Non Fanboys and Girls?

Is it peeps in NA that complain about Anime more then other regions?

To me the game play needs to be fun, smooth etcetera. What it looks like (so long as it meets or exceeds modern gaming standards) matters less to me.

Maybe some of you young whippersnappers can explain it to me.

Its called the Internet. Dont take anyone too seriously or else youll start to lose braincells at an alarming rate

I think it has something to do with over saturation, how “freaky” fandoms can be and how “cool” you can look for insulting fandoms or how going against certain fandoms puts you in another category of people who won’t insult you for liking the fandom (sort of a not one of them so I can be one of you mentality that’s common in children to teenagers).

The internet likes to take everything to an extreme, painting most things black and white while ignoring the grey of indifference. But that only makes sense when the people who don’t care don’t type about it.

It's just popular in the internet meme culture to hate on those who like anime even if they don't have a reason (yet most of these people I guarantee as a kid watched pokemon/yu-gi-oh/dragonball which is all an anime) and to all those people who say anime is nothing but animated porn go and watch the movie A Silent Voice or Clannad and Clannad after story and tell me you didn't cry like a little bitch.

Its xenophobic, people fear what they dont understand and they then convert that fear to hatred.

Melledoneus11/3/2017, 8:27:36 PM4 votes

There are silent majorities and loud minorities of people on the Internet.

Those who come post on these Boards, for instance, hardly make up half a percent of all LoL players. Yet they are the ones that come and complain about things like Zoe having a different aesthetic look from other champions, even though different aesthetic looks is one of the things keeping this game fresh, alive, and vibrant.

People tend to speak up when they have strong opinions. Just keep that in mind.

Whenever someone tries to give my crap for watching animu its like this:

"ha! what a dumb weeb"

"YA F*** me for having hobbys and intrests right? why don't you go watch some football you dum jock"

honestly its pretty pointless to make fun of someone for having hobbys

Ponyo, Ni no kuni, and Studio Ghibli vibes everywhere! I personally welcome any art changes, she looks totally unique and interesting!

i'm assuming this is made in light of the new character. She looks like a disney pixar or overwatch character when it comes to model style, not anime.

Anime can be kinda niche to watch i guess but overall there are those that appeal to most people like Akira, pokemon, Dragonball, Cowboy bebop/Samurai Champloo or other classics.

The thing is that it's got things that might seem weird to a western audience, once you watch some more anime you'll just accept those. Personally i've watched lots of different shows and can get into most of it's subgenres or atleast i used to, finding the good shit is getting hard these days with all the crap they show.

Fanservice shows don't really help with anime's image, some shows could be really great if it weren't for Fanservice too imo. Personally i don't think Ecchi is an issue as plenty of female superheroes in comicbooks wear sexy outfits too and the focus is still on the story/action. FYI: High school DxD is the only show i couldn't finish cuz i just lost my shit the minute he started talkin to tits.

Then there's the Weebs, and i don't mean the ppl we call weebs as a joke. I mean the ppl who take pride in calling themselves Otaku and wanna marry their body pillow or think they're basically japanese. I've seen ppl talk about anime as if it's gonna elevate humankind to the next point in evolution, That it's the pinnacle of storytelling/cinema, etc. Kinda like the recent Rick and Morty stuff that started the Copy Pasta meme.

visuals of a game are incredibly important, People who say Graphics don't matter lie.

Some graphic styles age well: LoZ Windwaker for example. Some age really badly: Nunu

the style and it's consistency is important too, which is where the new character is an issue for some. Personally i love that pixar style she's got but it was still the first thing that bothered me, because it's not leagues style.

Personally I want to remind everyone who cries about things being too “anime” that Riot is an international company that actuall does have a japanese playerbase. Not to mention the anime esque art style is quite popular amongst the east asian countries to begin with.

The internet is great place, but outside of memes this places can be very braincell kinlling.

and thanks for letting everyone know not to complain already :)

I think like others have pointed out in this thread, most people use it as a joke. It's a lot like hating on Justin Bieber, One Direction or any other boy band. No one legitimately hates Justin Bieber. When they say they do 99% of the time they're just being edgy and the other 1% I can only imagine are severely bitter and depressed.

But it's hard to convey subtleness and context through simple text so sometimes comments are taken more seriously than they were intended. I watch a lot of anime and I still like to make weeb jokes.

Swaid11/4/2017, 6:51:56 AM1 votes

That's the thing: most anime is actually pretty shitty with only a few good ones out there, since Japan seems to go with quantity over quality. They reuse the same tired jokes, tropes, cliches, and characters over and over and over again in nauseam. Once in awhile, we get something decent, even good for that matter but its few and far between. From what I've see, I think people are more fans of the style of anime itself rather then the stories or action sequences, since its adorable or 'kiwi', then they get attached to characters they call 'waffles'.

It's a meme you dip*[sg-lulu]*

Doctor Dyment11/4/2017, 12:48:47 AM1 votes

Others have phrased it much better than I ever could, but what it comes down to is the over saturation of anime in the US and its annoying fanbase, and also the equally annoying people who hate everything anime for no better reason that to hate anime. The stereotype of the average anime viewer is an overweight, unattractive, annoying, introverted basement dweller who hates going outside. While this isn't true, it is a stereotype and therefore people believe it. I personally don't like anime that much, but I don't go out of my way to antagonize those who do. That's when you stray from disbeliever to ass.

hey, what's up haha.

ahem. it's more of a personal preference for me. Most anime tend to by very exaggerated in style and substance and some people don't like it. and from what I know "weeb" tends to be an insult implicating that the person in question is a basement dwelling, body pillow having, computer screen kissing, overweight, unsocial weirdo that runs with his/her arms behind her like a corny ninja. They embrace a culture that is sooooo different then our own, and thus aren't "normal" In reference to fun gameplay, style and substance can ruin the overall enjoyment factor. For example: I love tahm and his dialog. the charming entrapment and backstabbing deals sort of style he brings is just great in my opinion, but I have several friends that literally mute the game because they don't give a care about vo and lore.

the real meat of the issue is: why do people care on the internet?

You wouldn't happen to know who really shot three guys in a bar would you?

wildfox9911/3/2017, 4:04:30 PM1 votes

just for posting it in "Story, Art, & Sound" you've got my respect

people always try to find a reason for insulting someone,if it wouln't be this would be something else

Digielf11/3/2017, 4:50:42 PM1 votes

People who try to hate Anime/Japanese culture specific are just jealous/hypocrites and try to convince themselves that it's bad but in reality its popularity is everywhere in the world and only keeps growing in all sectors especially in the cinema and gaming industry and they can't do anything about it. Anime style delivers things in the most perfected way that they can be presented.

SteelMankind11/3/2017, 4:28:58 PM1 votes

If this is about the new champ, I don't think anyone who actually has watched anime thinks she looks like shes from one.
