Winning vs. Having Fun
League of Legends is a game. As such, people obviously want to win, but people also want to have fun. So, which is more important?
I would argue that it's a mixture between both. The people who want to win the most are often more toxic than the rest of the community. As such, they lose more games as a direct result of their toxicity.
On the other hand, people who are too casual can easily stop caring whether you win or lose, and may even start trolling. I have actually thought about giving away a kill or 2 free just because the game was too much of a stomp, and I wanted to have a bit of fun (in normals, not ranked).
Finding that right balance, where you care about winning enough to not troll but not so much that you can't have fun in a losing game, is essential to playing any competitive game, really. And League is no different. I'm pretty carefree, and sometimes some of my calls may seem like passive-aggressive flaming (Vayne, could you please stop splitting bot and join the team? We really need you for teamfights), but I'm really just trying to set us up with the highest chances to win. The big thing is that I never swear when talking to my teammates in a way that could be seen as toxic (I may say "Fucking Ahri, hate that charm," but I would never say "Holy shit you're garbage" at least until the post-game) and I try to avoid saying things that are direct toxicity.
Most importantly, though, the carefree side of things can help prevent tilt. I really only tilt if I stop having fun, and if I do I will always take a break before going into another game, instead playing something like Skyrim or FFXIV.
My thoughts on the matter are to have winning as the end goal, but enjoy the ride along the way. Yours? Do you agree or disagree with my thoughts?
