@Lyte, can I get a permanent chat ban?

Hi there. If you ever found me in a game, I'm sorry.

I don't troll, I don't purposely feed, and I don't engage in homophobic, sexist or racist comments. But I have a major issue. I flame. A lot. Almost bever at the beggining, but I tend to get mad.

I don't understand why, considering it only happens in LOL, and only when I'm not duoing, but it's a fact, one I try to control and so far have failed. After my two week suspension I thoughT I'd able to get a grip, but after the last game, I realized it's impossible for me. Perhaps it's because I have a stressful life, and although I understand it is no excuse for exploding and flaming, and how ir is a despicable thing to do, I cannot control myself.

So I ask you, Lyte, or anyone in the moderation team, to please understand and remove my chat previliges permanently,to avoid both a permaban and an unpleasent experience for my tesmmates.

Does anyone know a way to disable chat completely? i'm usually a controled, but in LoL specifically I find it impossible, even when I hid the chat window from sight. It's mere presence in the game screen causes me to slip and spill bile into my teammates.

EDIT: Just found out I can't even unbind the Enter key. Come on, Riot! Your pings are already sofisticated enough, give us the option to not be a burden for other players

Here's a few ways: Unbind your chat key Move the chat window off the screen

And my personal favorite, the tried and true method that works 100% of the time: be mature and don't engage in toxic behavior

You blame the chat program in the game? No. That's avoiding the issue.

You can turn chat off if you want. But there is something else at fault if you're being toxic in the game. And it's not the chat program. The developers won't remove chat for you or anyone else. It's there for a specific purpose. Those abusing it are the problem.

i feel like i actually made this post because of how similar it is to my situation..

i got a 2 week ban too, just for being a bitch, but now that i'm back i would say i'm pretty chill. not perfect, but not raging. nothing that could get me permabanned anyways.

what has helped me the most is, not getting rid of my chat, but actually typing out all the mean shit i want to say and then ctrl A and deleting it. just type it out, call your jungler a fucking idiot for dying to your lane, and don't press enter. delete it and close the chat.

sounds stupid but it works. either that or skype with someone while you're in game so you can yell about your idiot team and nobody will hear you. except your skype friend of course.

Well you can request a chat restriction here. Though I've heard of people asking for a permanent chat restriction and Riot won't give it to them. So it is not likely that they will give you one. I can suggest a few things that may help.

  1. Say it out loud instead of in chat. I've called my team more names than I care to admit out loud, but I never say it in chat. Though this suggestion may be difficult if you live in a apartment or dorm. It's hard for me because I live in an apartment and I don't want to be "that guy" who you can hear down the hall with the door closed.

  2. Someone suggested one of those half keyboard things, a semi spendy option but it would do the job. I know a couple of my friends use this. It runs 67 bucks on Amazon, so kind of expensive but I've heard good things about it.

  3. If you are responding to trolls or flamers, minimizing your chat to make it super small might be an option. I'm in Silver and I notice that very few actually call out timers for things making most of the chat unnecessary. But that's just my experience.

  4. The mute button is your friend. Someone is getting on your nerves, just mute them. Makes life so much easier.

  5. If you feel yourself getting Salty, take a break. Even if its for 5 minutes, take a break. You can come back and you'll be a little more level headed. I do this one a lot myself.

  6. Turn off all chat. Really not much good comes out of having all chat on. Every once in a while I'll get a "That was a close one, wp" but that very rarely happens. Most of the time is just players trying to get me on tilt.

  7. If none of this helps, begin the game with /mute all. On days when I'm salty, I just do this automatically.

  8. This should be higher on the list but I'm too lazy to re format but it's hitting esc instead of enter. I know this has been suggested in the thread already but this has saved my ass more than once.

I hope this helps, and I wish you luck. See you on the Rift!

Edit: I was thinking about this and another one came to mind. Playing with friends has really helped me out a lot. I can talk to a person, in game, who can see exactly what is going on. I'll talk shit to that person via curse instead of typing it out in chat.

No problem. I find it refreshing to find someone who is genuinely looking for advice and not just fishing for justification.

Samus, your right about it not being Riot's responsibility to add something like that, but whether or not muting everyone works depends on what an individual triggers on. For some, it's getting flamed, in which case muting everyone works fine. If it's frustration over other people's gameplay, it's less effective and the player needs to find other coping methods.

The trick is finding an outlet for that frustration that doesn't involve saying things in chat that are likely to be punished. And some people do need to take more extreme measures to bring their behavior back under control.

Try raging out loud or typing /note <insert rage here> enter

Send a ticket to Riot's support, if you haven't already done that. [slayer-jinx-catface]

What if you get a cheap USB keyboard and switch the laptop keyboard off while playing? Or possibly a Nostromo (a partial, one hand keyboard designed for gaming) and just not bind the chat to any of those keys?

I understand this as OP saying to himself and all of us that he/she threw many shit-fits in-game got caught and now is trying to build a defense..later when OP gets a permanent remember this thread where they try to say that they have NO Control over it !

I call BS..Don't hit the enter Key, if it really is a work computer as you implied before then Don't use it for a game that you rage in !

In Short RIP the ENTER key out if you have no control, I guarantee that this is not the only place you have anger issue in !

I Do have some sympathy for you though, so I suggest this Say your nasty comments out load ! Shout them as load as you can and if you find that you are in anyway embarrassed by this Then YOU know you shouldn't type it.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do but to shut up and take it. I've sent a ticket to support about this exact topic and they apologized saying there's nothing they can do. On the other hand, #teampermabanned lol

Some of the ways I've avoided getting punished:

  • Type stuff out, remind myself it's not worth the risk to my account, and hit Escape instead of Enter.

  • If I'm getting flamed, I mute the player (so I don't have to see their insults) and use the mute post game as a reminder to report them.

  • If I get frustrated to the point I'm too distracted to play well, I'll do something else for a bit: Read a funny story, grab a snack, play a different game, etc.

  • Music can have a huge impact on moods, so I try to keep to music that is neutral (Instrumentals such as classical or orchestral soundtracks)-positive (Songs with a positive message). If that doesn't work, I'll switch my playlist to something relaxing (New Age, Trance). The trick is figuring out how different styles affect you and use that to help get you into a better mindset.

Some things I haven't done personally, but I've heard has helped other people:

  • Scream at your monitor, assuming you don't live with someone who would mind. Riot only checks what is typed and sent, so screaming your lungs out will, at worst, make you horse.

  • Have something next you you can punch. A pillow, a ragbag, just something you can physically pummel without causing any damage.

  • Muting everyone as soon as the game starts. Yeah, you might miss out on some of the things other people say, but if you get triggered by the chat, an inability to see it could help.

  • Remove/Unbind the Enter key. Yeah, it's one of the most extreme methods of avoiding further punishment, but if it works, it works, right?

Ask the support. They even ban people for the duration of finals if they ask :)

You could also tell your teammates at the beginning of the game that they should probably mute you because you have rage issues and are trying to reform, but don't want to ruin their fun with your words.

And if they decide not to, that's on them.

Hey, friend.

Please don't take this as a flip off, but considering the personal life issues you've listed, you may want to seek professional help, be it through a therapist, a councilor, or what have you. Coordinate with your doctor. Life has thrown some serious crap your way, and while that isn't your fault, dealing with it in a healthy manner is a decision only you can make. Stress can do extremely unhealthy things to you, and it sounds like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. LoL might not be the environment to work through that in.

With all due respect, You shouldn't worry about being a nuisance to other people; worry about your own self-control.

If you find yourself responding to someone that said something in chat, just mute everyone at the start of the game. I do that.
