Ranked rewards debate

Currently. Ranked rewards are partially tied to player behavior. Players with bans towards the end of season lose access to ranked rewards.

Imo. Riot should recomsider their stance on this. As it only "hurts" towards the end of tge season. And imo is arbitrary and doesnt actually do anything

Arguments for current system

  • It is a harsh lesson for negative players
  • it gives "meaning" to going unpunished

Agruments against

  • 1 bad losing streak or escalated punishment is all it takes to lose your border
  • it teaches peoples "its okay to troll as long as it's after borders are handed out" and someone who gets 14 dayed earlybim the season isnt affected
  • some people would say skill based achievements shouldnt be tied to player behavior
  • It encourages bait trolls to try and get people banned late in the season.
  • Playerd who have lost their border have less incentive to reform. And may be pushed into becoming trolls
  • Borderless players may be unfairly prodded at by bait trolls

Curious to see if you'll get downvoted for these, as this is a fair discussion to have.

Personally, I prefer the idea of end of season rewards eligibility being tied to Honors (except for ELO boosters). It'll give people time to reform through the year if they get punished, and if reformed, you'll get your rewards.

But that would make it sucky for the ones that aren't that active to earn the honors.

Players who lost their border have less reason to reform.... Aside from their account being perma banned Players are okay to troll as long as its before or after a cut off date.....No, again perma ban is very easy to get Some people would say jumping off a cliff is okay . Some people don't really mean anything so I gave a meaningless example Trolls bait everyone regardless, so its irrelevant to account for their affect and borderless alone.

Pro's by attaching rank rewards to having good behavior: 1- produces more sportsmanlike arena of play 2- Ensures people are aiming to be positive towards their fellow summoners 3-The risk to being a "dick" results in the loss of your "skill reward", quite literally a threat of be positive or lose your skill accolades

Totally agree.

this is why we have honor. if bans happen take away the honor rewards. also make the honor rewards much better than getting gold rewards. defiantly should be 2 different things. players should be able to get their deserved rewards for gold+ no matter what. getting there is the reward no questions asked. unless of course you get boosted or cheated to do so.

I voted yes, but I absolutely agree that the arbitrary cut-off dates feel incredibly inelegant and might create weird incentives. Primarily I'm thinking of how this is supposed to send the message "Be a positive influence so you get rewards!" but the easier solution for people who have difficulties with self-control is clearly "Just play as little as possible until the season is over!"

Basically, these arbitrary cut-off points create a similar problem as one that Riot has tried to fix in another area: People who only play the bare minimum of games to avoid dropping due to inactivity, because they are afraid to lose their rewards if they play "too much" and end up with a bad streak.

So, even if for no other reason than consistency in their own reasoning I think Riot should take another look at the current way ranked rewards are tied to behaviour and maybe think about feasible ways to make the system more elegant and less arbitrary.

another negative result. is that players who get 25 game chat bans late in the season may retire that account, and be toxic on a smurf to prevent a 14 day ban
