yes it's a useful tool. but should players really be forced to use it? especially in a team based game. ritos overzealous ban policies have left neutral and even positive players afraid to type. and encourages active non communication due to trolls
I'm not particularly afraid to type. Just don't be a dick. It's not too hard.
Players are too irresponsible with chat to use it effectively and positively. Chat is a dumping ground of hostility and verbal abuse and is often used as an outlet for aggression onto undeserving people who, in turn, often retaliate with an equal or greater amount of negativity. Players can make all the promises and claims they want about being exemplary and different from others, but my history indicates that nothing is further from the truth. Seldom do I ever encounter a wholly positive individual in league. The discovery of those too few and far in between gems are not worth running the risk of online anonymous attacks. I have sworn to guard myself against all hateful, angry, and hurtful comments in game.

I mean, I kind of get what you were saying, but then you went off the deep end.
Mute is a useful tool, and I agree players shouldn't be forced to use it every game to avoid toxicity.
But, neutral and positive players aren't really afraid to type. I'm surely not, and trust me I've had my bad days before. I've never been punished because I still remain positive and respectable in chat, even when there are trolls present.

I'm never afraid to type, I just stick to gameplay related stuff most the time.
Then again, I really don't know how it feels to get punished, with my random bantering and occasional taunting, I've never ever been punished.
