I was a little shocked
http://na.op.gg/statistics/tier/
I went back to this op.gg's statistics page and noticed the option at the bottom to look at leaver rate in games. The number is pretty consistent around 15 leavers every TEN THOUSAND GAMES. 15/10,000, that's 0.016% of games in Bronze, Silver and Gold. Admittedly that number might be a little bit higher to account for people that rejoin/just sit in base(especially in higher elo) but not by that much. Even if we doubled or tripled the number there then that's still less than half a percent.
Thinking back on this I feel that I really haven't seen many people actually afk as I feel I used to. And for those that feel this is a serious problem for them, these numbers make me feel it's a mental thing of noticing the times that things go wrong way more vividly than the times things go right.
All in all I'm glad Riot's afk catching has improved things this much
