WE NEED INFORMATION!

I've noticed that there's a lot of misconceptions in players heads about how Riot's report system works. People seem to have this idea that a person accumulates reports and after some magical number of reports they get some sort of punishment from an inhuman system.

People who read the boards and keep up with the stuff Riot says will know that a report acts simply as a flag for the system to investigate the behavior of the people in that game. They don't realize that the number of reports doesn't correlate to the likelyhood of a ban. They also don't realize that reporting someone for the wrong category isn't effective because that just looks like an inaccurate report and will be thrown out.

This is especially important because I see lots of people in my games saying "Please report ____ for ____" even if it's something that's going on in their chat and we can't see. Lyte has mentioned that people shouldn't ask other to report people because it encourages negativity by all. People come to the boards and complain about how 4 people ganged up on them and reported them, and how it's so unfair that those people can get people banned just by their numbers. Misconceptions abound.

**The Solution: ** If we could have an article written up by a Rioter about generally how their Report system works (the things that aren't classified). A link to this could be put in the client like so many other things are, and then we could all be informed. I know even my knowledge is incomplete and even for myself I'd love to hear more about what Riot is doing on our behalf.

Thoughts?

Hey, just thought I would jump in on this, as it's something that's near and dear to me.

A Riot-supported wiki was something that we all pushed for during the development discussions for the Arbiters Initiative. We had two requirements. First, that everything come from and be verified by Riot. This turned out to be pretty straightforward, as the Arbiters are in almost daily communication with Rioters. The other requirement turned out to be more complicated than expected, that being that the wiki needs to be hosted by Riot. Because of the way the new boards work, we can't just make a stickied thread and board resources have been tasked to other projects.

I have been mulling this over for a while because I'm reluctant to take it on myself. I have some experience with this, as some of you may recall. Managing a knowledge base can be an exhausting, overwhelming task. I have been fiddling with Google Documents, as they're fairly robust and can be ported across relatively cleanly once Riot builds the wiki. The problem is that you need to have the basic structure in place before you can start adding entries and I haven't been able to do more than putz around at it.

My goal is to have something to tell everyone sometime shortly after the first of the year.

I got to admit, although I've never been toxic, the hardest habit I've had to break is either calling for, or even mentioning that I personally will report or mute someone.

If I think about it rationally, I realize that it only serves to make myself feel better. If I say I am going to report for feeding, this will only make trolls try to cover up their behavior by getting some kills.

The best strategy is silence! Think of yourself as a CIA agent, if you give yourself away, you are just sabotaging your own reports after the game.

As to your post, that will only serve to help various toxic players and cheaters beat the system. It's best kept in the shadows like a Chupacabr, striking when people least expect it.

Last I knew, this was untrue - the system doesn't scan for the specific toxicity you report, but rather for whatever it can find. I grant that it may have changed (it certainly wouldn't be the first time I missed something).

Other than that, I strongly agree - a news article or something readily accessible would be a great way for many people to learn how the system works, and a great resource to share with those who come to these Boards.

On somewhat related note: I got PM'd by some random player (who'd presumably friend requested me lord only knows how long ago, who I don't actually know out of game, don't remember & likely played only once with etc), who messaged me solely to spoiler star wars. I have a screenshot of it. What can I do to manually report this abuse?

( tried googling, was directed back at the boards after the search sent me to a board post which said to submit a ticket, which sent me back... yea.. here i am)

I generally don't use forums. Sorry if this is considered "not report worthy" but I think we all know that's an action of someone whose goal is pure toxic trolling. I'm not so hyped about the film, but he intent is clearly there; like sexually harassing or using bigoted /hateful language: the behavior is toxic & is that of players seeking to worsen the gameplay experience of portions of the community for their own amusement.
