@Riot: You really need to work over the concept of your Low Priority Queue

SaltyToplaneGoat··6 votes·2,843 views

This is no thread saying I didn't deserve such punishment, after all I'm guilty of intentional afk. There are some people so toxic you do not want to win a game with, so I decided to do something else instead of wasting my energy for a person I can't stand.

First of all, the misleading name. It's not a queue, it's a time penality. But the idea behind that is reasonable: you made your team waste up to potential 20 minutes until they could surrender - now you're going to sit through those 20 minutes too! (Multiple times ofc for the multiple games you did that).

However, 20 minutes is too much . Not saying that it is too much of a punishment, but that it is so much you can simply do something else during that time with no need to actively pay attention to your punishment.

1st 20 Minutes: I read a manga and waste some time on tumblr, almost forgetting I have the queue on.

2nd 20 minutes: I watch the latest episode of Dimension W (Interesting and unique Sci-Fi series airing this season - lenght: 20 minutes). Generally, every anime and many western shows have an average episode lenght of 20-25 minutes. I could just start marathoning a random series I havn't watched yet with league brakes between the episodes. I wouldn't even notice the punishment anymore xD

3rd 20 minutes: I go grocery shopping (time spend without hurry: 15 minutes)

4rd 20 minutes: I do the dishes then take a long hot shower to relax myself.

5rd 20 minutes: I lurk around on the lol boards, writing posts like this one.

That all is stuff I would have done anyways. Literally all this "punishment" did was to re-arrange the schedule a little.

A true low priority queue has people sitting in front of their desktop for 10 minutes because they don't know when they are being matched and have to accept - and that in a time frame that is still tolerable to make one wait before they stand up and do something else (aka 7-10 minutes). But 20? Lol no. if you really want leavers and afks to go down, you might want to rework this system a little, because right now it doesn't feel any punishimg to me at all ^^

Have you ever experienced the low priority queue? You are put directly into queue when it is over and if you miss it, you have to sit through the entire 20 minutes again. It also doesn't start at 20 minutes.

I wish I could head the the grocery store, shop and get home before 20 minutes! I'm just jealous.

Honestly, I had some major internet troubles last year that led to me getting the queue multiple times. I feel that it's not really a punishment at all.

What I would suggest is X amount of mandatory 5v5 bot game wins. Bot games would act as a waste of time for players who've afk'd purposely far more than the 20 minute low priority, since it's extremely simple to do something else during the time, while bot games force players to actively participate. For players with internet issues, it forces them to check their connection in a bot game. And if someone does leave during the 5v5 bot game punishment, it doesn't really matter to the teammates at all, bots are quite easy to beat even 1v5, you're not really harming them at all.

Yes, multiple times. In was in one when I wrote this post. I even stated it there multiple times. Did you even read that? O_o

Also yes, it has ALWAYS been 20 minutes to me. Maybe because I only play rankeds? No clue how that works.

20 minutes is so long I can easily do something else on my computer while simply having it running in the background. Simple as that.

OP intentionally afks games. He probably lives in a box outside of Wal-Mart.

Nope, it's more the fact that european cities are less designed for cars and more designed for people than american ones. It's pretty normal to have a grocery store within close walking distance here unless you live on the countryside.

It doesn't start at first, but once you reach tier 2(at least for ranked) of Low Priority Queue it will stay at 20 minutes for like a year of daily playing.

OP, despite being a filthy intentional AFKer, has good points. It's annoying at best, but hardly a punishment.

In the old system you could be banned out of the game for a week straight for AFKing. That was WAY harsher than 100 minutes worth of queue time. Even for people who could only play one or two games a day, the old Leaver Buster was at least four times as severe.

In retrospect I didn't expect anything else from things Mr. Jeffrey Lin had anything to do with, though.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Strange. Even when I got it the first time ever it was 20 minutes. Probably because ranked? Not sure, would make sense tho.

Yeah, but that's what I was getting at. If you want to punish someone at least do it right <_<

As far as I know, ranked reaches the highest penalty after the second offense. Or at least initially did.

As I said, I haven't went AFK for like 6 months and got 5x20. The best part is that I didn't actual go AFK. The longest I wasn't doing anything in the game recently was when I went to the toilet and came back 2 minutes into a match. Not that I cared much about it, since I had lags anyway, so I fired up ARAM and went watching anime.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Wouldn't be weird if it gives you the highest possible pneality by default when you are in ranked. Because rankeds > normal games I guess.

Personally I had this about 3 times, this included, since the system has been enables (5 games every time) and it always has been 20 minutes.

RiotRiot Tantram3 votes

I can see on your account that the first offense was not 20 minutes.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

That must have been so long ago I can't even remember it. Somewhen early last year? Or even earlier? I have no clue when you intoduced this system.

RiotRiot Tantram3 votes

It is literally 10 games of not afking or leaving, Not a year.

20 minutes is the 4th tier.

Mysticman891 votes

Are the times for various tiers public? As well as the criteria for getting elevated to them?

I'm rather curious but my quick google didn't give me much info in the way of concrete numbers.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Funny, because I haven't went AFK since preseason started - possibly longer - and outright got the 5x20 minute penalty.

As such there are three options:

  1. Each server gets a special treatment.
  2. That's what higher-ups told you to say.
  3. You don't actually know a thing about Leaver Buster.
Nik Nikerson2 votes

Or you're not being honest about your actions. That's an option as well.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Or you may stop assuming everybody disagreeing with Riot on the Player Behavior board is lying.

According to Riot Tantram, properly playing placement matches - as in: from the beginning until a Nexus gets destroyed - alone should be enough for me to not get the highest tier penalty right off the bat, yet I played WAY more than 10 games without going AFK once and still got one.

God I hate people like you. Trying to justify afking because "people said mean things to me" is pathetic and inexcusable. If anyone is harassing you, guess what? Mute them. Why the hell would you just up and leave the game, forcing people to waste their time for the next 20ish minutes, and potentially lose elo if its ranked? Guess what? You aren't only affecting the person who was being toxic to you, you are affecting EVERY one of your teammates. Childish and immature.

If you are unable to stay in a league match for the entire duration of it, I suggest you find a different game.

SaltyToplaneGoat2 votes

Of course I could easily mute them. But also, I do not wish to support an openly homophobic and racist asshole win a game. One time it even was a team of 3 premades who were like that. Do I have an obligation to help these people with anything? Hell no. I'll gladly lose a game for that.

If you want to hate someone hate on those who go 0/7/0 and than flame and ragequit once someone points out that they might be doing something wrong.

Sneakos2 votes

I agree, no one likes those kind of people that feed and then flame. But if they stay in the game, at least I know I have a chance at winning, so long as they aren't intentionally feeding.

But when I have someone who gets mad for whatever reason (maybe its justified, maybe it isn't) and leaves the game, I know my odds of winning are extremely low. If someone is racist, homophobic, nazi, and tells everyone they should go kill themselves, you aren't doing anyone a favor by leaving the game. If you really want to punish this person, play it out, and then report them after the game. I know it may SEEM like they don't get punished, but trust me, they do.

You can try to justify it however you want, but unless there is an actual emergency, or your internet just cut out randomly, you have no excuse to AFK. If you continue to play league, please just stay in the game. You aren't doing justice to anyone by leaving.

SaltyToplaneGoat2 votes

Maybe I do not want these kind of persons to win? It is against my personal morale to let such a person win anything. If I lose the game and get a punishment for that I wholeheartly accept it.

If you had paid attention to the thread you could tell that this is not about justifying my behavior, but about that this "punishment" is a total joke with close to zero actual reforming potential - which is a massive problem actually.

Instead of giving people low priority, why can't you guys just count the match the player has AFK'ed or left or RQ'ed as a loss? I feel like 20 mins is way too much because 20 x 5= 100 mins and you could have probably done like 4 matches with that much time. People who disconnect from games due to sudden lag spikes, or sudden disconnections and are punished with 100mins time penalty is totally unfair, and has happened to a LOT of innocent players (including me). What if the player disconnects, and is not able to get back on because of an unknown error?(someone pulling your plugs, couldnt open PC for some reason, lag, etc.), or what if the player had lag but they disconnect and get punished by the system? This punishment should either be nerfed (intead of giving 20mins, count the match as a loss instead, but only for the afk player) or reduced from 20mins to 5 minutes permanently in my opinion. You could also increase the reconnection timer from 3 minutes to 10 ( I've heard that if you disconnect in a game, you have 3 or 5 minutes to reconnect back or you'll get punished. What I'm saying is to increase this timer so that people may have more time to reconnect and get back in the game).

This is where you need to learn & stop playing ranked matches. I can clearly say that the majority of my ranked matches even last season's are usually a bunch of kids who can't connect properly due to weak internet connections etc.

But it's not just about ranked matches, it also applies to all of the game modes (aram, normal, bots, etc). I NEVER play ranked matches when I know that I lag. I only play bots just to see if my lag is bad or not. If it's good, I'll play other modes, if not, then I'll stop. And I know how it feels when you get Bronze 5 because your teammates are trolling/someone disconnects, etc.

Agreeable here I'm stuck in elo hell, but i will eventually Jungle my way up when I'm not that busy.
