There are times when shit happens in real life that you have to attend to, but lately people have just been quitting games just because they lose interest, or despair grips them and they just give up without provocation.

And this has become so goddamn common, it has affected the entire regional community, probably even further than that because people are forcing themselves to degrade into pissy whiny craven little shits because the despair cults are fucking growing in power and influence. If your willpower has degraded that fucking much that teamfighting a single goddamn minion is lightyears beyond your grasp of confidence, then leave the fucking game and don't come back ever again.

they should punish leavers in ranked harder, but in normal play it should not exist

Tbh it happens because people know there is no actual punishment for quitting in the middle of the game.

"Oh I got a 5 game 20 minute leaverbuster? I'll just put on an episode of <TV show here> to pass the time" or "Oh I got a 5 game 20 minute leaverbuster? I'll just log onto my smurf account"

I sometimes feel like just giving up and quitting but I always stick it out to the end of the game and then log off lol.

Leavers and provocateurs don't get punished harshly. The one punished is the tilted person as a result of said actions. Good thing you decided to write that here had it been in game you could be looking at a 3-5 month honor lock.

It's cute when people don't even leave games, just AFK and type because somebody made one (1) comment on something they did wrong. Not even anything rude - just trying to help them do something better - and they act like it's the end of the world and make up shit in all chat to get the person reported instead. It's extremely common and I'm tired of people losing their minds in the game.

It doesn't help to mute all, your team will fight among themselves either way.
