Can we stop pretending the system is actually an honor system

Please just stop.

The current League honor system doesn't encourage being honorable as much as it encourages carrying games hard. Yea... not being a dick helps. But let's face it.... most the time that doesn't matter that much. Why? Because players don't care if you are a dick if you win games for them. I know I personally don't. And even then people don't care if you are honorable they just want you to play well. How many games have you played where you were super friendly to players. You didn't really have to do much in game, your team stomped for you but you got the win. How much honor did you get? 0? Maybe 1? How about your teammate who hard carried? 3? Yea.... that's what I thought.

Now.... lets take this "honor" system and use it to punish players. Lmao.... ok. So regardless if you were honorable at one point or another say you have a rough patch. You start speaking out, and get reported and get hit with a chat restriction. Opps you fucked up... you realize your mistake. Hell maybe your like me and you decide to just disable all chat because fuck it... who needs it anyway. You serve your 10 game chat restriction and are on your best behavior. That's when you see.... o... now your honor level 1. Huh... that sucks... ah well guess you don't care about key fragments that much anyways. But what's this? A new mode coming out soon called clash is being released soon? Huh... sounds fun... you always wanted to play a mode like that as you miss the old 5v5 mode. Only problem... you need honor 2. Fuck!... K well... guess I just need to be nice for awhile and you will get back. You play 10 games... you have no chat except ally and all you say is gg. Hmm... nothing. 20 games.... hmm nothing. 30 games... hm nothing. Around 50-60 games maybe.... maybe... it tells you "heh you been more honorable than xx% of players keep up the good work!" Still 0/3 on your way back to honor 2..... Wait wtf is this shit. Then you get like 70 games and you finally get 1/3. Then another 50 games maybe you get 2/3. Like.... jesus fucking christ Riot.

And honestly... I would not have a problem with this system. I really wouldn't.... if it wasn't for the fact that your system doesn't fucking promote honor lmfao. Like...... how can it? you can only honor 1 person after a game..BUT YOU HAVE 4 FUCKING TEAMMATES!. You can't honor opponents. LIke... it promotes fucking next to nothing. And then on top of it you going to hard core punish players for this shit? It's not my fault your system is garbage. I get I fucked up honestly I do.... I disabled all chat... I have hardly said anything bad in fucking months man. Most my bitching to begin with was about how you ruined this game (which many agree with) and I was just venting in chat which because we lost I got reported for. And the time I got punished and the only time I really said anything super bad I said it to a person who was smurfing and literally admitted IN FUCKING ALL CHAT that he was boosting for money. .... Like..... You know that player never got punished and that account won't get punished at least for what like 2 years? Meanwhile... I get a chat restrict. W/e I served it... but now almost 3 months later and I am still honor 1 lol. Like.... ugg... you guys just suck at everything you touch lately it's insane.

And anyone who spends time reading this going to think I am some super jerk. When in reality I have played this game for almost 9 years.... never once have I been punished by this system until this season. Only time I ever got a warning was back in season 3 right after your old honor system was released and I just hit teammate honorable or w/e lol. Then like a week later got punished for talking too much shit (which was a lot more common back then) and got a warning and lost my honor symbol. Since then this account has never been touched. I was honor 5 during preseason. Then you magical "reset" honor..... plus ruin the game. And now I am seen as some villain. Its honestly pathetic. I don't know who the hell you guys been hiring these last few years but you guys have literally ruined this game lol.

Literally fix your shit.

  1. Some players will honor their carries - others will honor those who were friendly, sportsmanlike, and intoxicatingly kind. Some people have "defaults" that they Honor (support honors bottom laner, bottom laner honors support, etc.), and others will honor in fairly rare circumstances that they choose.

That people will honor players who they felt carried the match doesn't mean that the Honor System doesn't promote honorable behavior - you're still encouraged to try to be honorable, since being honorable and friendly can increase the likelihood you'll get honored.

And trying to base the assumption that "Honor system doesn't encourage good sportsmanship because I've rarely seen people honor anyone but the carry" isn't going to work. There are millions upon millions of people playing League daily. Your experience with the Honor System may be shallow carry-honoring, but that doesn't mean that the whole world experiences it the same way.

  1. Restricting Clash to Honor Level 2 players is a pretty good thing, and Riot was smart to do it. Clash is meant to be a hardcore competitive game mode, a literal tournament for players who otherwise wouldn't be able to participate in tournaments - they expect players to at least be base-level Honor if they want to participate in such an event.

And you can argue "but what if I just have a rough time" - here's the thing. If you crack in any gamemode - Ranked, Normals, ARAM, what have you - how likely are you to crack under the pressure of an actual tournament?

If you have a rough time in those other modes, you'll have an extremely rough time in Clash, guaranteed.

As for the Honor progression part...Not saying anything isn't exactly an improvement over lashing out or venting, y'know. Simply being neutral - as in, not dishonorable at the very least - will only get your Honor level climbing at a trickling pace. You have to actually display Honorable behavior if you really want it to climb.

But, if you're simply hellbent on not talking, just be sure to Honor other players. Work to get that Team Honor Bonus, at the very least.

  1. Arguing that the Honor System doesn't promote Honorable behavior because of how the system itself functions doesn't work either. You can only Honor one player because they wanted to make that decision impactful, they wanted you to really ask yourself "who do I feel was most honorable? Who made this a good game for me? Who was a good leader, or who stayed cool under pressure?"

And, again, giving some extra punishment (inability to sign on for Clash, ineligibility for End-of-Season rewards) gives players an incentive to try and be honorable - or at the very least, not make the same mistakes twice and get dropped down again, or dropped further.

  1. Your views of the game and Riot's decision to reset Honor at the end of the year (which was heavily telegraphed, mind) are noted, but not relevant. Riot's system doesn't need "fixing" like you propose - but your attitude might.

Funny that, I'm honour level 4 and get most honourable a decent amount; not through carrying but through being positive and friendly with the team, and I honour others who do the same. I couldn't care less if someone hard carried, if they were negative all game they're not getting my honour vote.

Zed splitpushes and loses every 1v1. Our team is behind, but our jg and I manage to peel hella hard and keep fed jhin alive vs several enemies (including a fizz) who want to dive and delete him. Even though fizz can literally 1-shot and we have other enemies to deal with and are BEHIND, we peel well enough that we win every 4v4 and most 4v5's mid game. While zed gets nothing done splitting except when 1v0 while we're losing towers 4v5 and doing our best to stall and stop them snowballing drags, towers, and getting free baron. I could split and 1v1 anyone on their team even when behind, but then my team would lose 4v4. Thus I'm grouped.

Well eventually their drag advantage and zed splitting costs us one time too much. And we lose elder and then baron. Team forces split up fight w/o me and jhin there, we lose 3 and then lose the game cuz jhin and I can't 2v5 hold nexus towers vs 4 drag elder drag team with baron and 3 waves of super minions. And what do I get for all the sacrifices I made to help our fed bot lane out all game and play for the team? A giant F U. Support and mid flaming me, saying I solo lost us the game, never did anything for the team, afk fed solo laning (my deaths were in teamfights). Telling me to stfu when I tell zed to group after his 6th 1v1 death splitpushing and no kills to show for it. And of course adc and jg don't stand up for me at all even though I am actually helping the team and putting in far more work than zed and not inting like he is. Nope... it's 0 honors and 2 post-game reports from the zed and brand... because I help the team, have better kda than zed while 4v5 frontline peeling for my team vs an enemy team that was ahead and fed. It's reduced ability to climb honor ranks (due to frequency of stupid reports like these ones from zed and brand) while nothing will be done about my report of the zed who solo threw the game 10+ times via his stupid splitpushing and inting 1v1 and 1v0 while gaining nothing for it because I'm not high honor rank and zed and brand probably are.

Can't imagine why people like me ever get frustrated with their teammates seeing crap like that every game and getting flamed/blamed by half your team or more when you are literally putting in more work than most of (or all of) the people blaming/harassing you. Because they're too arrogant, selfish, or noob to see. Gee I'm sorry for getting fed up with the fact that none of these assholes ever get punished when they throw a perfectly winnable game by inting and screwing their team over for 15+ min until the game is unwinnable no matter what we do while flaming and harassing me the whole time. Let me just keep my mouth shut as even neutral players take the side of my harassers because they don't realize just how badly said person(s) are screwing them and me over. They're not bad or toxic for harassing me for not teleporting into a 1v3 to save their ass after they screw up. They're not bad for leaving me 1v3 vs a midlaner they fed while they sit afk in lane not punishing their opponent for roaming or the enemy jg for camping me. But I'm bad because I ask jg to gank SOMEWHERE instead of afk farm for 20 min. I'm bad for telling mid to not run in 1v4 and force a fight when they've been feeding all game. I'm bad for asking bot to group so they stop getting picked off solo farming far after laning phase has ended and we have no vision on bot half of map where my adc is badly over-extending for cs while enemy runs it down mid 4v3 and takes tower after tower. Yes... I must be illogical for thinking this makes no sense. I must be toxic for asking my team to stop doing a strategy that they've done for the last 10+ min of the game and only fallen hopelessly behind from implementing. I must be an arrogant noob to think that executing a very easy pro-level strat which has max rewards and minimal risks is something my team should be doing INSTEAD of the strat they've continued to do where they beat their heads against a wall until they bleed to death. Because I'm some dumb arrogant toxic selfish piece of shit like that... that is why I am low honor. Because I tilt of seeing that same crap game after game and knowing my (and my team's) winrate could be increased by 50% if they'd just listen, I lose it. I give in and reply to toxicity and inting with toxicity of my own. When toxicity and inting go unpunished game after game after game and I see my lp drop lower and lower while people act like it's my fault... I retaliate against the toxicity and inting and harassment directed at me. Not after one instance, but many many instances over 15+ min of gameplay that involved me meeting toxicity and inting with logic, encouragement, and solid advice/suggestions/requests. If Riot won't punish said toxicity and intentional feeding by my teammates; I'll let them know how stupid and toxic they are being. I'll give them a taste of their own medicine (minus the inting). And that's when I get reported... and punished. So inting and toxicity and harassment is fine... as long as it's done to a low honor player like me. But if a low elo player is NICE and shows teamwork despite being harassed... the people doing the harassing and inting face no consequence. Great honor system, great report system lol. And Riot somehow wonders why people get toxic. Gee... maybe if we dealt with intentional feeders and those who harass others for like... the entire game w/o any valid reason... we wouldn't have people snap due to said inting and harassment.

Maybe if we got rid of trolls, intentional feeders, people who hold champ select hostage, and those who subtly harass a teammate(s) w/o any validity to their argument and try to turn others against said teammate when their arguments are met with positivity, logic, and honesty, we wouldn't have so many low honor players. Maybe if we were all a bit nicer to each other in schools and stopped bullying and belittling others to make ourselves more popular or to feel better, there wouldn't be so many school shootings. But no...it's gotta be the guns. Not like we can get them illegally on the black market, by stealing or borrowing them from others, or have enough already out there that new laws can't prevent all potential future shootings. Maybe if we spent more money on actually helping our fellow human beings instead of on preparing more deadly ways of killing them should they do something we don't like we'd have a more peaceful world. But nah... let's just come up with more ways to murder people and only give to people if there's some really big tragedy in a country... like a tsunami while otherwise leaving the millions of people in said country to live in desperate poverty. And then wonder why people in that country hate or don't trust those with over-abundance of wealth when we tell them what to do. Now those last examples may be a bit extreme and a bit off topic, but they are real-world extreme versions of what is allowed in league. There's cause and there's effect. Instead of attacking the effect... why not attack the cause. If people are shooting others in public locations because they feel bullied and harassed and no one lifts a finger to stick up for them... why not try to stand up against bullying? If third world countries are being mis-guided into terroristic tendencies to try to get their basic needs met or having brutal civil wars... instead of sending money and trying to micro-manage them... why not work to improve the standard of living for the average person by helping them. Like really helping them... not for some secretly greedy way to make them dependent on some industry/company from your country but out of the goodness of your heart. If the problem with league is people inting and harassing/flaming others w/o cause... why not punish said individuals and NOT punish those who are abused by said players over and over for the whole game... game after game... for when said abused player(s) retaliate because they can't take any more of the harassment? Idk... maybe I'm just crazy. But it seems to me like dealing with the CAUSE and removing it completely as possible would be a whole lot more effective than trying to deal with all the effects and leaving the cause in place.

I don't agree with how you said it but I do agree the system is inconsistent at best and RIOT should be ashamed of themselves for such a poorly implemented system that punishes more than rewards.
