a possible solution to the /mute all problem

lets face it, whether you engage in this behavior or not. /mute all is unhealthy for the game as a whole. and people who mute all 9 players from the start of the game make team communication a living hell, even though that usually isnt their intention especially with ping muting being a thing now, a suggestion i had, make it so the mute function is disabled for the first 5 minutes of the game, players in the punishment tiers could still be muted from the start.

people could still /mute all. but not until 5 minutes in, and with few exceptions. most people dont become "toxic" until someone has died. "unless they got trolled in champ select" and this allows people to gauge the salt level of chat before just preemptively muting everyone

Technically you still have pings to communicate to them.

If they don't communicate to you, you can report them for negative attitude. That's if they don't make any effort to communicate towards the rest of the team such as pings, messages, etc.

Them not listening to pings/chat is not an offense, thus why should they not be allowed to mute?

because the mute button is meant to deal with people who are being toxic, and not so you can shut off communication with your team.

also negative attitude is a placebo report.

Actually i think it is also meant to shut off text communication to prevent being drawn in to a toxic situation.

its meant so that if a player is being negative in chat, so that you can mute them to prevent the situation from getting worse. it is NOT meant so that you can indiscriminately mute everyone because you dont want to deal with chat. also when you mute all. you place a heavier burden on the teammates in your game who choose to try to work as a team. and actually contribute to toxic chat indirectly by being a source of frustration

The mute feature is used to prevent text from showing for any reason. Nobody is forced to read text to play League of Legends. They are required to communicate.

Negative attitude is not a placebo report, it falls under "negative and unsportsmanlike comms" - i.e. 90% of people complaining about bans on these boards. Negative attitude is just as bad as verbal abuse, but that category is either more inflammatory/extreme chat, or spamming constantly to the point of abuse.

most of them were probably reported for "verbal abuse" and/or other report categories as well.

Doesn't matter what report category it's for, the game is flagged for review. Report category really plays a role in if a manual review is required/performed. They use the report category/comments to assist.

Team communication is easy without chat. Pings are very effective and easy to use. Hey they're even adding the new warded ping which is really nice.

except due to riots stupid decisions. pings are now mutable as well

Yes they are but not many people mute them until people start spam pinging question marks on a corpse or something. Even then I think muting functions work as intended and are healthy for the game to avoid a tilting conversation or incident of spam pinging. Remember not everyone who plays this game chooses to control themselves because to them it's the internet where they're all badasses and can't be punished.

the problem is i feel like the mute button is being abused by people who just want to treat league like a single player game. muting people who arent toxic frustrates the hell out of people who are trying to win. i would honestly rather have a toxic player on my team then a /mute aller.

ummm heh sorry i guess but us people who mute all do it to keep our cool and focus on the game. I know myself I do it to keep out of chat and look for opportunities to spread my lead rather than argue with a salty laner/jungler.
