PSA: Players "asking for reports" is still a thing

Every single game I've played the last 5 days, I've had someone (either on my team or enemy team) ask for reports in /all chat on someone else -- mostly for "feeding". or "trolling" (no one was actually doing any of those things).

  1. Players are not aware the IFS only needs one report to flag someone.

  2. Players are not aware asking for reports can be considered harassment.

  3. Even after I inform them of how the system works, they still don't believe me. I have to tell them to refer to Riot Tantram's posts on the forums here.

  4. Riot, please make your player base more aware of the rules and how your punishment system works, I'm tired of reading chat every game to see people "report so and so for x!" like it's free candy passing it around.

#I've even had someone argue with me about the system saying "no you need 6 reports to ban someone".... like wtf? Where do they come up with this crap? It's a clown fiesta up in Ranked, everyone.

Riot desperately needs to communicate this better. Not only does it distract in-game, but it makes trolls baiting honest players that much easier.

Lol seriously.

In silver it's like.... you failed a gank as jungler level 2? "omg report our jungler trolling".

Stuff like that; so obnoxious.

Last night I went Nasus ADC (It's sleeper op) and the moment we loaded in, our jungler said "Even if we win I'm still going to report you". We won bot lane easily (lost the game overall though but no fault of my nasus).

It's cray cray.

Had a guy get auto fill support. He asked "can someone trade me? I don't play support and there is NO way I'm going to" he proceeds to pick azir and heads bot Lane with our adc. He starts stealing all the cs he can. Then someone on my team asked in all chat for reports because this guy was legitimately being toxic by doing this. The azir then says "I asked for someone to trade me and no one did. This is all your faults, this is happening because you guys didn't give me what I wanted. This is a consequence of YOUR actions." Word for word this is what this guy says, then he busts out with "asking for reports is reportable, I won't get punished for anything but you all could. In a situation like this I'd say asking for reports is more than ok.

I mean sure you can ask for them in situations like that; but there's literally no reason to.

The IFS doesn't take anything more than one report into account; it doesn't "weigh" reports; one is the same as 9, etc.

Except it takes multiple flags before an account usually gets punished.

Not in a single game, though. 1 report = 9 on a per game basis.

Depends on the severity of the infraction.

If someone is already on thin ice after a 2-week suspension, and they are toxic in chat and you report them in your game, they may most likely be punished by the IFS right after that game (and you'd get a notification).

But as said below, per-game it doesn't matter if it's 1 report or 9 reports, you only need the one to flag someone.

that is not really true. Last time I came across a topic like this, someone posted an old link where riot made "clear" statements regarding this. Ppl always seem to refer to this and based on it tell players that more reports dont matter and one report is enough. Funny thing though is that after i read through those statements, i realized that they are anything but clear. I came to the conclusion that it actually might have an influence if u can convince the enemy team to report someone.

If someone can find this/those post/s, I could show better what i mean.

A pre-made has no more power than a solo player.

A report simply flags a game for review. A 4-man pre-made reporting you does not improve the chances of a game being reviewed.

Your ban was due to Riot's zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech, it had nothing to do with the pre-made.

If you do not believe your behavior warranted a penalty, post your chat logs here and I'd be happy to discuss them.

Well, that's not possible. So..

95% of my reports are targeted at bots / ppl botting, but I don't remember ever getting a notification telling me said accounts were penalized.

1- is this normal?

2- does this weight against me, since none of my reports are -validated- by the system (and thus the system must think all my reports are bs)

3- am I wasting my time reporting bots (usually for a combination of cheating / intentionally feeding / afk / leaving)

Riot Tantram (NA) - about a month ago 1 - yes, this is normal. You only get notifications on penalties related to your reports for verbal abuse and intentional feeding currently.

2- No, there are no report 'weights' anymore.

3- No, bot reports are used. You are certainly not wasting your time.

No, it only takes one report to flag it for review.

Asking for reports serves no purpose other than to tell the person you are reporting that you are reporting. It's an "I'm telling on you" comment.

And ya, there is no reason to ask for reports, even in your specific scenario

Riot recently made a thread where they said asking for report isn't bannable so no worries in such situations.

I hate that asking for reports is against the rules. I can understand it, I can definitely understand it.

But if someone on my team is being outright toxic for no reason, that person should get reported.

  1. It's not "against the rules" per se... using it to harass others, is. Of course, I don't really understand this philsophy, as it only confuses players and encourages report calling to begin with... but I digress.

  2. You only need one report to flag someone, so therefore if you want to report someone, do it yourself.

But one report is often not enough to get someone punished, unless you consider a flag a punishment.

....No.... that's not how it works.

#Again, you only need one report to flag someone for chat/manual review by the IFS. You cannot "make" someone get punished by having more reports. The system is binary; either there is a flag on the account or there isn't; reports are not "weighted". One is the same as 9.

people get punished for being consistently toxic in games. its the number of games (validly) reported that matter, not the number of reports recieved.
