Leaver Buster

So, I wanted to start this off with saying I have never had an issue with leaver buster before. I have a stable internet connection, I don't rage quit and leave games, seldom do I run into issues where the system flags me. I've never really thought much about the system before, because I can't see it. Recently though I have been playing with a friend of mine I know who has internet connection issues and computer issues. He plays on a laptop that tends to randomly shut down on him, the league installation on his laptop consistently gets corrupted, display driver issues, etc. This is not to make excuses, it's just to illustrate that I understand he has outside of game interruptions that happen much more frequently than normal plays so he's probably an outlier.

Recently I had made fun of him for getting put into low priority que. It was funny because he would have to grind out fast games while the rest of us played together. It was kinda funny at first but it slowly become more and more often to the point we weren't playing with him. I was ready to just write it off as he deserved it until a game last night. We were doing well until around 12 minutes into the game, he was support and I was adc, and his internet just died. Skype, League, the whole thing dead. For the next 15 minutes of the game our team managed to hold out against a 4v5 and actually stalemate the game. He finally came back, played another 5ish minutes, we ended up winning, everything seemed good. He was gone but came back AND WE WON because of it, and yet he got hit immediately after that game with a low priority que.

Now I'm not saying this is indicative of every leaver, but seriously there should be something better in place to avoid this. He was in the game for a good 5 minutes or longer after he came back and he participated in and helped us secure the win. Without him coming back after something that was beyond his control we would probably not have won the game in the long run. And yet despite his recovery and our victory he was still punished, and not a single person on our team was upset over his leaving. The other players even said welcome back and we pushed. I feel like this is a place where the leaver buster system did fail, and hopefully there is always work being done to improve on these systems.
