Exploding racism in League

I'm sure it's a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're saying. That's the best case scenario here, is some fuckheads who jump on any group, no matter how heinous, just to scream "ME TOO! I'M RELEVANT!". God knows League is already bursting at the seams with them.

In this case, though, I guess they wanted to up the ante. One of my earlier games had someone spouting extremely racist shit and calling for ethnic cleansing in light of the election going on right now. This kind of language is intolerable anywhere, but seriously? Riot logs everything you do; saying that sort of shit WILL get you permabanned, no matter who wins the fucking election.

come on, you complain of some bits of trash talk which have literally no effect to anybody. meantime riot themselves openly discriminates russians with their actions (not words) to force those to their own servers (it's almost surely their $$ deal with the holders of the russian server). i also remember how riot tolerated very offensive posts and image macros against latin americans on this very forum, portraying those as monkeys trying to have sex with dogs and such... but god save you if you dared to say the n word. that's how people are biased nowadays

I didn't specify WHAT kind of racism the person was spouting. A bit presumptive of you to think they were talking about blacks, isn't it?

Also, if you make such a cavalier claim that Riot tolerates racism, you sure as shit better be able to back that up.

Any kind of racism should be dealt with, even if it comes from RIOT themselves. We are a community and if we find anything they do racist, or in any way discriminating, we should speak up. Also, don't think that a bit of trash talk is harmless. There are plenty of people who might get really offended or even hurt by racist slurs or things like it. People who have been bullied their entire life might get some unplesant memories back or someone who's father/grandfather/mother/grandmother/other relative died in the concentration camps might get very sad if you start mocking the holocaust. My point is, just because you personaly might not think that trash talk is all that bad, there are people who's emotional state might even colapse if you push them too hard. It isn't that difficult for us to just put in some effort and think before we type.

For the record I have no experience of RIOT intentionally or unintentionally discriminatong any group in our societies. They are openly working against racism and I would like too see some hard evidence before I am ready to belive your claims about RIOT discriminating russians or latin americans or anyone else. So far I have not experienced any tolerance from RIOTs side when it comes to recist players.

That's why I drag-and-drop the chat window out of the screen, disable the game sound and mute everyone. So I'm never annoyed by flamers and by the sound of pings-spamming. As you say they will get what they deserve (Even if an IP ban could be more effective), so why should people give attention to that kind of toxic/racist players ?

Last time I ignored what other people were saying, I ended up in handcuffs with a gun pointed at my head, and I'm very lucky I didn't get ventilated on the spot.

I post it as a reminder that it's not tolerated, EVER. I've seen idiots drop the N-bomb in every line (even in contexts that make no goddamn sense) and then freak the fuck out when they get banned for their foul language. The operative part of this thread is the mention of the me too mongernauts who are only copy-pasting the fetid language of others without actually understanding the words.

Words are vowels and consonants, text on paper or screen. They have no meaning unless you give it one. The fact that you won't let %%%%%% die as a racist term and let it continue as what it has evolved into, like the similar gay, and %%%got, show your inability to adapt to the globally evolving linguistics of society.

I can call you by several hundred words which are far worse than what you complain about today, in the days of their original use, and you wouldn't have a clue. %%%%%% is only still around because its meaning and usage changed, as with similar terms.

Yet, If I wrote you a paragraph calling you these awful names that you don't even know, you wouldn't have a clue enough to even report it, let alone the ones reviewing it.

I've been actually shot at, in an actual gang related crime, so your poor story attempt at garnering sympathy doesn't move me at all.

The meanings of both of those terms is still incredibly offensive and racist. It isn't we won't let it go society has determined the connotations of the terms and deemed them offensive.

The pen is mightier than the sword. It would be wise to remember that.

I would just like to say that racism on the intenet (in this case in League of Legends) is not only punishable by RIOT in the form of bans, but it is also punishable by law (at least here in Sweden) as something called "Hets mot folkgrupp" which is pretty serious. (I don't know what the law is called in english) Anything said on the internet is under the same law restrictions as anything you say out loud, although many tend to forget this while they're in a game or on a website. The authorities are also pretty bad at upholding this law on the internet and I think they have to get better at this. There should be zero tolerance against racism, sexism and such on the internet, just as there is in real life.
