Does riot do anything significant about troll farming/refusing to help your team?

EDIT: Everyone seems to be skimming my post without appreciating the situation I describe, and then downvoting/commenting.

I am not talking about split pushing sometimes, or about protecting a tower from a huge wave.

I am talking about consistently refusing to help for MOST OF THE GAME. And farming or slow pushing in situations when it is obviously something that will make the team lose because the enemy is destroying your whole base. The situation I've described is not a different strategy opinion, it's careless and/or troll play.

For some reason whenever there's a troll in my game its almost always a teemo who just goes and troll farms top indefinitely, and doesn't respond to pings at all. I'm not sure if it's always someone trying to troll, or if they truly care about other players so little that they just follow their whims irrespective of everything else that is happening. I had a teemo that was pinged and asked for help all game and only helped out about twice in brief skirmishes; usually when he wasn't really needed. Then the enemy was in our base and taking our towers & inhibs 4v5, and teemo was slow pushing to their outer tower with a small minion wave. His justification was that someone needed to get their tower, as if it was a worthwhile trade. People said stuff like "omg. he's still troll farming. report this teemo man"; but didn't say anything really rude. His response was to cuss us out and inform us that he was going to report us.

Does riot have anything that detects people who refuse to help like this? or is it just if a person gets TONS AND TONS of reports for not helping they might get punished eventually if the tribunal finds it credible?

banned a guy for refusing to assist his team He queued up as support, took smite and ghost, then left his ADC to solo lane for 5+ minutes. People just read it as "we are banning him for playing singed" and shat themselves.

The thing is - people like that aren't trolling.

"Troll" is not a blanket term for "anyone who plays in a way I don't like". Trolls want a reaction, they want to provoke you into blowing your cap. A troll doesn't passively fail to perform, they actively sabotage performance. They get their enjoyment out of the flaming, rage, and ping spam they induce in people.

What that Teemo was doing is either being a garbage player, which is not against the rules, or he was trying to intentionally lose and make it look like he's just a bad player. Sadly, this is a very difficult situation for a computer to make a decision on. Poe's Law applies here - someone who's truly awful at the game is almost indistinguishable from someone parodying a bad player.

People who aggressively troll in ways that make their intentions clear do get punished by the system. People who actually troll and don't just use "I'm such a troll" as an excuse for being bad will never spend a whole game just split pushing when there is so much more they could do to piss off other people in the game.

I think he was trolling actually. He was doing the same thing all game regardless of what anyone said. It's likely he was trying to troll but be subtle so he would't get punished. Also being a garbage player isn't against the rules but refusing to cooperate/help and refusing to communicate is against the rules, and a pretty troll thing to do, even if the intention wasn't to make others angry. People spent 20+ mins trying politely to get him to help, and explain why what he was doing wasn't working; he barely acknowledged what ppl were saying.

Actually people who just want to throw a game and make others angry do often just refuse to help. I've personally seen people say "You took my role. I'm done. ***** you" or "You're going to flame me. Fine. have fun 4v5." etc and then proceed to just farm jungle camps and top lane all game. I've also seen people start a surrender vote, and immediately go away from the team and do nothing but farm when the surrender vote fails. Best of all, I've also seen one person refuse to relocate to fights/objectives and spam ping like mad on top of themselves wherever there is fighting to ensure the whole team knows they are throwing; they did this for atleast 15 minutes EVERY single time there was a fight. They also denied they were trolling in chat.

Sometimes, people want to troll but want to go unpunished so they get creative and subtle, but through consistency make their intentions 100% clear. They sometimes deny it in chat because they know the chatlog will be looked at/considered by the tribunal.

Riot does nothing to trolls I was about to make a post myself about this right before I saw yours its getting out of control people intentionally troll / grief and just try to get you to break the rules by getting upset. RIOT DO SOMETHING!

indeed, but not in the case I stated. It obviously wasn't going to work, and no matter how many people tried to explain it to him he did the same thing. If you saw the game you would have seen how extremely obvious it was. He either didn't want to compete, or was trying to troll subtly.

Sorry, but there's absolutely nothing that should ever be done about this in a single game. I can't even explain how many games I've been accused of "afk/farming" while my team runs it up mid and I'm stuck to defend against super minions on our nexus towers. Take a real deep, hard look at those games you think someone is doing this shit and I bet 9/10 it's YOU that's out of position. REGARDLESS of whether you're with the rest of the team.

And to the idiot's bringing up the Singed support case please stop. It's not equatable and completely irrelevant.

I have had a similar experience to you once, so I do appreciate what your saying, but you should realize there are people who actually trollfarm all game, irrespective of teamfights, objectives, and minions. People do bring up legitimate concerns that you might not have experienced much; it's not something you should be rude over. Also the teemo I mentioned was top at the outermost tower while the enemy was in our base which I was defending. I wasn't out of position. I do stop and consider before I accuse someone of trolling, (and I rarely do). I've had games where you'd be 100% sure that someone is troll farming if you saw it.

Trolls are one thing. Doing it with a purpose is one thing. And if that's what you're talking about fine. But I've had hundreds of games where people think I'm afk farming or not grouping when in reality I'm saving our nexus, shoving all 3 lanes so I can get to the team fights late and we get real pushes or just hoping they don't feed too much while I take every objective. Those flamers shouldn't have any right to tell anyone where they should be on the map or when they should team fight. Most of the time they're just so wrong it hurts.

Agreed. Also I don't know what your experiences have been like, but in my experience trollfarming like I've described is the most common form of trolling/giving up/careless play; probably because the team will get the message, but it's likely to go unpunished.

Did you fully read my post and take a second to understand the situation I described? The enemy was in our base taking our towers and inhibitors. Since they were taking multiple objectives like that I'm sure you can infer that they were a lot stronger then us. Also, he had a small minion wave and was attacking their outer tower, there's no way he could have gotten to their inhibitor. He was also pushing slowly. Meanwhile they got multiple base towers and inhibs. (that's obviously not worth) Also he didn't help almost at all, for the whole game. He did not respond when people told him it obviously wasn't working and didn't respond to pings. People, my team- not just me, were trying to get him to help all game, and eventually said to report him. <all that I previously explained.

The strengths and weaknesses of teemo, mainly shrooming up and split pushing, doesn't mean that being away from the team and split pushing top 95% of the game is a non-troll thing to do no matter what.

A lot of the time there is a giant wave about to crash into a tower and when I leave the endless standoff at mid tower to go clean it up I get flamed for "afk farming."

The situation I described doesn't sound like what you do. I'm talking about consistent trollfarming for vast amounts of time no matter what. I guess riot would need a system that could tell the difference between the two. Idk how difficult that would be, and I really don't know if they already have something like that.

Refusing to help the team is already reportable btw, and false reports apparently dont hurt you.

I've just about had it with troll teammates. Just got out of a game where top Darius vs Darius and fed like crazy, tried to come mid and take my lane then proceeded to feed my opponent. The past few games junglers refuse to help, bot and top usually feed, if I roam and get them a kill they just feed again and do the same things. Ive been ganked at level 2 for 3 games straight. I wish I could have a good jungler or decent bot lane. Granted, I could improve on what I did, but Ive seriously been trying to help my team more. It becomes discouraging when they dont want to improve themselves. I just went 3/9 Syndra vs Annie because of how many ganks she had. Whenever I warded river Top or Bot (yes even bot lane came mid) would come from Raptors or our Blue.

try playing at different times, and you will probably get put with different people; especially if you are playing at times when there aren't many ppl at ur mmr playing. It works for me. Also just send out friend invites to any good teammates you get, so you will have more reliable ppl to play with. That's how I avoid that problem.

And what is diving the 2/0 enemy botlane to give a doublekill, over and over again?

What is engaging in chases/duels with no vision or advantage?

What is trying to force baron at lvl 13 with 50% hp, against a team with global ults, that is respawning in 5 seconds?

There is a reason why I stay away from my teams dumb decisions.
