what defines a "valid" report? in terms of report weight. is it based on whether the person was punished, whether it was flagged by the ban robot? what happens to all of the "he was toxic but not enough to get banned" reports? do these lower your report weight?

also, can report weight go back up if you've lost it at any point?

Whether or not they actually did something against the Summoner's Code

I'm not sure about unsportsmanlike conduct reports, but I can speak to verbal abuse.

When you submit a report for verbal abuse, the automatic system will scan the chat log for keywords and phrases that are frequently reported/toxic. If the toxic keywords/phrases are there, the report is considered valid. If the person didn't say anything offensive at all, the report is considered invalid and your "report validity score" is decreased.

Once your score is low, your reports will no longer send any chatlogs to Riot by themselves- instead, someone else on your team will need to report them for the log to be sent. The system will still note whether your report was valid or invalid when someone else's report sent the log, so you can increase your score by only reporting correctly.

So: report -> scan for keywords -> mark reports as valid / invalid -> valid report marked on the person you reported's record -> reported person punished if necessary

Report weight = how strong your report is.
(Weight does vary but this is just the simple explanation)

Low = meaningless spam the system ignores. High = Heavy impact on the reported accounts behavior zone.

The accuracy of the report is not judged on whether the reported was punished or not. Positive reports do not always result in direct punishment but will have an impact on the health of the reported user.

So even if a player isn't toxic enough to be punished. Your reports on those players can still be considered positive reports.
