Why is trying new champions for the first time in the competitive game mode considered acceptable?

This makes zero sense and is blatantly non-competitive behavior.

When I queue for ranked, I expect everyone on my team to be trying their hardest to win the game. If I wanted to queue and screw around, I would have been playing in normals.

What is the reasoning behind this being allowed?

Completely agree with this. They should implement some sort of system similar to HotS. You have to either play champs to a certain mastery level or certain number of games.

I hate when players try brand new champs in ranked. Riot could at least figure out a better way to get data.

Because by definition, in ranked it means that people are actually trying, Would you test a condom on an orange or a real person? Come on now.

Because you have no clue if they have played them in customs that don't show up, on PBE, or other accounts.

Mostly because ranked statistics are the only way riot can determine whether a new champion is weak/strong. For instance, Camille would take an extra month to nerf the state she was in if her ranked gameplay was delayed.

Not as strong arguments: -Players could've practiced on PBE. -What would the difference between first timing a new champion and first timing an old one be on paper. -If you're trying your hardest to win and you believe you can win on a new champion or strategy, then there's nothing wrong doing what you believe will likely secure a win. You put yourself at risk doing it anyway since its your ranked game too. -Not knowing how to play a new champion can also even out the fact nobody knows how to play against it either.

I seriously can not believe someone actually is asking this and defending it... Seriously I have seen everything.

That means I wont be able to first pick yasuo for our smurf yasuo who unfortunately is last pick, unless I have 10 games with the noob champ.
