Even if they're not being used in a hostile and/or derogatory context. Suspend them. If it was used in a harmless context, they can explain themselves in a support ticket. Just get these people out of our community.
Lindts4 votesOkay the n word isn't fair. Not to be racist (truly), but what if a premade group was saying the n word and they were all black? You don't know that from behind the screen. Should they all get banned or suspended for being pals? They say that word (in their own terms) as a friendly thing. It's not meant to be degrading. So we can't just say "if we see these words, it's an automatic suspension/ban".

Maybe me and a friend love using the C word which is the most insulting word you can say to a woman and we joke around with it, even if only they can see it, that is still wrong. This is an example anyways.
Use voice chat to talk about those things. Or bare minimum keep it to your team chat, if all 5 of you are on the same page and you say it between yourselves that is a lesser evil, as soon as it is said in all chat, its over.
Lindts1 votesAs always, there's 2 sides, but we can't really force people into a skype call, or any call, because say your wifi is already bad and can barely maintain 80 ping. A call could make it worse, whereas you're content to chat in game. League of Legends isn't associated with any voicecall companies to say that that is an option that they provide. If they don't provide it, they have to accept that friends will chat on here. And friends should be able to say what they want. But that's just an example.

If it's a full premade group, and they're saying it exclusively among themselves, it shouldn't matter. The Tribunal used to edit out team-chat for premade groups of 5, on the presumption that their in-jokes are likely to be acceptable to their own group, regardless of general acceptability.

Allow me to reiterate: if there are other players around, why does it matter if the person saying it is black?
Does that change how it affects the random person hearing it (despite the fact that he has to way of knowing what ethnicity the person speaking is)? If so, how does it do so, and in what way?
EDIT: Also, was it really necessary to jump straight to ad-hominem arguments? Usually people offer at least some attempt at a rational discussion before going down that rabbit hole.

If other people in the game are offended by, bothered by, or disapproving of the things you're saying, I don't think it matters whether it was accidental or intentional.
The only way Riot should suspend people is to keep every piece of a convo and look at the context, because there's a lot we can't know.
Here's the thing: League of Legends - in a general sense - is not an appropriate context for that kind of language. The community doesn't want to hear it (hate speech was effectively an auto-Punish in the Tribunal), and the owner of the venue doesn't think it's appropriate.

Banning words outright because they offend certain people is extremely un-American. It's cowardly. Law should never mess with language. That's how you get to be in an authoritarian state.
Riot hasn't even banned use of the strongest profanity as long as it is in a context not directed at someone and that rule should stand for all words.

as for slurs.. i'm not really sure. i would say that certain people have a right to them but most of the time it is the racists and homophobes using them, so if i had to stop sarcastically calling myself a f#ggot in exchange for all the homophobes in league getting banned i'd say that's a pretty good compromise.
