RIOT DOES LISTEN TO PLAYERS. (READ IF YOU WERE ISSUED A 14 DAY BAN)

Wife In Lantern·11/14/2017, 7:50:22 PM·51 votes·3,725 views

Regarding the removal of rewards for players issued a 14 day ban after 8/22/2017, riot actually does listen. I was banned for 14 days for saying 'kys' multiple times in a game ( I know this is super toxic ) So i got my ranked rewards confiscated. But then i sent in a ticket to riot explaining my situation- I copy and pasted the exact passage i sent below:

SmoothBlockModel Oct 22, 1:27 AM PDT

A few weeks ago my account was issued a 14 day ban due to being toxic i assume The chat logs that were presented to me after the game showed me saying "Kys" to my teammates while i understand this is wrong, the situation that was presented to me left me tearing out my hair that day. I was already very unhappy at the beginning of the game because our jungler refused to communicate with a trade and i was forced to pick up the adc role (my worst role) even though i was supposed to go top. The game started off with bot lane getting ganked at level 2 and me preceding to go 1/4 because jarvan camped the lane for the first 7 minutes. We were repeatedly dived, then eventually, i started to "afk farm" in bot lane to try and catch up on the 100 cs difference between me and the enemy laner. This is where my midlaner jumps in and decides to come and steal my entire wave of cs (which aggravated my greatly) I decide to go and farm jungle, hoping to catch up maybe just a little, while i took about 30 seconds to do the blue buff, veigar walks over and q's it. This is where i reach my breaking point. I tell veigar to "kys" and procede to try and farm for the rest of the game. By the end, my score wasn't looking very great. I was 1/10 and had very bad cs. I was chat restricted twice when i first started playing league of legends in season 5, since then i rarely talk in chat and generally keep to myself besides shotcalling and objective communication. After the game, i received a 14 day ban ( i get it, i need some consequences for being toxic) BUT THEN I FIND OUT I DON'T GET SEASON REWARDS IF BANNED AFTER 2017-8-22. In no way was i prepared for this. I spent DAYS this season working towards my goal of diamond and when i am a month's reach of reaching my goals, i get hit with this. 2 seasons time and i don't get a chat restriction, i basically wasted an entire's seasons worth of games working towards nothing. I need riot to understand the circumstances of the game and what caused me to lash out in such a way. I have already finished with the 14 day suspension, but i hope to receive my season rewards back as there is no way any punishment should be this harsh. Season rewards mean almost everything to me and such an instantaneous consequence like this should carry at least some form of warning to it. Thank you for reading my story. I hope you understand.

**After this message. a riot employee replied to me and gave me a second chance which i appreciate deeply. His message I have disclosed below: **

Iron Wing (Riot Games Player Support) Oct 23, 8:52 PM PDT

Hey there,

My name is Iron Wing, and I'll be your Player Support guide for this ticket.

I have reviewed this case and confirmed that the ban was correct. We have started to take a stricter stance on "kys", as it falls under our "zero tolerance" terms. That is why this case escalated past the warnings, and moved straight to the two week ban. This is how seriously we take these terms, and I am trusting you to not use them in the future.

However, because the account has no history of behavioral issues I will be making a personal judgement call. If you wrote in earlier during the two week ban, I would've offered to reduce that for you, down to a chat restriction. I only offer that as a personal gamble that you can reform without needing to go straight to a ban. Now that you have already finished the two week, I am going to mark your account as if we had reduced this down to a chat restriction. All other penalties and records of this punishment will persist on your account. Keep in mind that this is not typical, and we may not be able to reduce any future punishments.

This kind of exception is already very rare, and offering it after the ban is over is another exceptional circumstance. That may make some of this process confusing and unclear to you. I ask that you trust me to handle this correctly, and to do what is fair in this situation. You may ask me any follow up questions about this action.

Lastly, because we consider the two week ban to have been reduced, you will be considered for potential Ranked Rewards. It is your responsibility to maintain this eligibility, and future punishments may disqualify you. You will most likely need to manually request rewards after they have been distributed. You may reference this ticket #########

Again, let me know if you have any questions. Happy to clarify!

**I just wanted to make this post to prove that riot actually does listen to their players in terms of bans. You just have to be justified in being not consistently toxic. Riot understands players sometimes break down and they are lenient on their decisions. So stop making posts like "Riot doesn't listen" or "Riot is too harsh" because in truth, they do give out second chances. **

Wow.. you lucked out there.

What's more important, you realized that what you did is wrong and you have mostly a good history. Most of the people on this board were just filling the chat box will all kindsa nastiness, they know it, they know it was wrong, and they have no remorse (aside from being sorry they got banned).

I wish more people would be like you.

Best of luck in the future dude :D

I don't think this is luck at all. I have seen this happen before in cases where players have almost no (read: no) history of toxicity and snap in one game, but are polite in their dealings with support. It is all in how you approach things, and sadly many players take the same attitude here or with support that they do in game. This is why you don't see anyone really saying this is a possibility - because very few are able to be as polite and honest as you are. You admitted to your wrongdoings in the game, and owned up to them.

As the support agent said, this is the extremely rare exception - it was based on the exact circumstances in that game (which I must feel would be mitigating in some way, such as your entire team flaming you and you snapping with only one line) as well as your history of no punishments (and/or very long time ago). I'm glad it worked out in your case - but I'd caution everyone else reading that if you are not an exceptional case like OP, do not try to use this as a reason to get unbanned. I have seen hundreds, if not thousands of players come here either outright requesting their ban removed or "between the lines" doing so and I can count on one hand the number of times I felt it deserved removed.

"We have started to take a stricter stance against "kys" - says that if he wrote in earlier he would have been reduced to a chat restriction when there is supposed to be a zero tolerance policy against "kys" .. ???

Imo you shouldn't of got your rewards back, but my opinion doesn't matter here.

Anyways, gratz on getting your rewards back I guess...

I just wanted to make this post to prove that riot actually does listen to their players in terms of bans. You just have to be justified in being not consistently toxic. Riot understands players sometimes break down and they are lenient on their decisions.

This...Is a horrendously crude distillation of the situation. They're not lenient, and Riot Iron Wings even told you that what you got was an extremely rare double-exception, and - more than that - it was a personal judgement call. This isn't the whole of Riot being lenient to otherwise good players or first offenders, this is Iron Wing alone allowing an infinitely rare exception.

By saying all this, you're giving a lot of people the wrong idea, and I can already imagine a good handful of players are going to take away "EXCEPTIONS! SECOND CHANCES! I CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING!"

They may give out second chances, but it is impeccably infrequent, to the point that it shouldn't be expected.

Wow you got so lucky. I wouldn't be surprised if people see this and take it as unfair treatment and make threads saying they don't treat everyone equally and I deserve to get mine lifted cuz I'm never toxic either blah blah rant rant.

No they don't always listen

You know this makes me a little upset, not only do I think 'kys' is A LOT more offensive and ridiculous to say to anyone whatsoever, regardless there was someone who was banned for 14 days, had their season rewards removed and she was then left unable to use the few days she had left to get to diamond. Instead of saying 'KYS' multiple times in a game, she said 'ch1ng chong' (with an I, not a 1) and was banned. She had no previous punishments whatsoever, since last season. Not a single chat restriction.

I'm glad you were able to get this fixed and removed, but the fact that you said something that (in my opinion) is more derogatory and offensive, literally, suicide - is quite sad and disheartening that this situation is overturned out of many other cases.

This player has had NO chat restrictions, NO prior punishments before this, had honor level 5 and jokingly said 'ch1ng chong' once and was banned for 14 days. The Chinese / Korean, (I'm not exactly sure what the duos descent was) but they were not only extremely toxic, spam pinging, and asking enemy team over and over to report 'zero fks given' yet she, zero fks given, was the only one doing well on the team.

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/RtQOERgy-14-day-suspension-am-i-in-the-wrong

Like if this going to happen, Riot shouldn't be nit picking what cases they feel bad for a player and hand them a second chance and instead listen to a lot of other players who were shit on by their automated punishment system for ONE single mistake, that wasn't even meant to be directly said to player(s) (they were typing all game in Chinese, spam pinging, then only would type in English to ask enemy team to report.

This actual toxic Chinese duo in North American servers would suicide and intentionally throw the game, really sad but yet they were able to get away unpunished, the real toxic players.) But I guess telling players to kill themselves is less offensive than typing 'ch1ng chong' once. Okay Riot.

  • HELLO, WE ARE RIOT GAMES. WE TAKE TOXICITY SERIOUSLY AND TRY OUR BEST TO PREVENT IT ON THE RIFT. IF YOU TELL A PLAYER(S) TO KILL THEMSELVES.. FINE, WE'LL BE 'LENIENT' AND HAND YOU A SECOND CHANCE. IF YOU USE A MEDIOCRE 'RACIAL SLUR' SUCH AS 'CH1NG CHONG', JUST ONCE, WE'LL TAKE OFFENSE TO THAT AND YOU WILL BE PUNISHED ACCORDINGLY. -

Honestly, you shouldn't have even posted this. I'm sure it makes a lot of other players feel the opposite of thinking Riots player behavior team is even remotely 'understanding' for specific situations such as this. Any player that threatens and directly tells a player to kill themselves, to take their own life and to actually mean it is a little fucking messed up (it's okay if you disagree) and that's toxic. But hey, because you have no prior punishments (just like zero fks given) and told players to kill themselves and to take their own lives (zero fks given only said ch1ng chong once, that's all. Less than 10 things wrote in chat for the entire 'offenders' match) and have your ban removed seems a little unjust imo.

Riot employees working with Player Behavior should stick to their guidelines of 'All punishments and bans are considered final' or start looking into other cases that are way way WAY less severe than this and give player(s) their rewards they worked extremely hard for and unban them.

Yes I agreed... You are pretty luck.

Your New Year resolution to not get any one single chat ban in 2018.

Looks to me like you had a hissy-fit. I hope you don't get those rewards. You should never say that to someone.

1: Props to Riot, the Benevolent Overlords. You made a strong case, and they exercised judgment. They didn't have to, the could have shown you the door, but they listened, and responded in kind, showing a great amount of Trust.

2: Don't waste this, my brother. Don't waste it!

CAN MY SUSPENSION BE REMOVED? Suspensions due to the Instant Feedback System will not be lifted or shortened under any circumstance.

Disciplinary suspensions unrelated to the Instant Feedback System, such as an inappropriate summoner name, will vary depending on the specific situation. In these cases, please submit a ticket to Player Support, and we will be happy to provide you with more information about your suspension and how to proceed.

^^^^ from riot support center.....like i have said in other posts....why even have this if Riot just unbans, changes, and modifies bans anytime they feel like it. Also, what does it take to be one of the "chosen" ones? Myself and thousands of others were trolled, gotten our role stolen, flamed etc. Where is our hook up? We just get copy pasta ninjas and the follow up of "we closing the ticket as the banned has been explained".

Niyumi11/15/2017, 10:10:58 AM1 votes

I was banned for complaining about champs in chat and complaining about bad teams. I sent in a support ticket like two months ago, asking what merited my 14 day ban, and they told me that they treat having a negative attitude as seriously as they do trolling and all that. They specifically said I wasn't toxic or flaming, but I get punished as if I was.

But hey, grats. I'm just goinna go impersonate a bronze all season.

I sometimes send in support tickets just to talk to riot.

They're pretty nice guys

Unban me please, all i said was "%%%%%%" when the game started just that one word got me a 14 day ban and it wasnt even towards anyone i just said it in all chat for the luls

Riot CAN listen. 80%+ of the time they will not, but people like Iron Wing, and Riot Keyru (someone i had a good experience with) do exist.

If you want a serious answer or help, I’d actually reccomend the Boards Moderation discord instead of riot support, every standard support ticket I’ve made, except requesting unchained alistar, has been a pointless argument that falls on deaf ears and gets closed eventually, unresolved.

The boards moderation discord though, i was able to get heard and had my question (about climbing out of a lowered honor level) answered, and was mentioned a game that could have been cause for the progression to be set back. (the example mentioned however was just a tilt game with an uncooperative support, thankfully though, so as far as i know my progress is still smooth sailing.)

I wrote a PSA that had a segment about situations like this: LINK

Q: Can I get my ban lowered or lifted? I've seen other people who have done the same thing and gotten away with it...

unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that they probably won't be able to do that. You can try, but it says explicitly in the terms of use that Riot's ability to enforce certain rules is independent of their enforcement of those rules.

Meaning, if they catch a person and punish them for doing something while not being able to punish another person for doing the same thing, they can still punish you for the full punishment that they deem appropriate for your offense. When you hit the perma mark it can't be undone. Mostly all bans are final and can't be reversed for the most part (except in a few very, very rare cases)

If you feel like it can help, message Riot or try to get someone to look at your ban to see if you can get a reduced sentence. The only instances I have seen that have a chance of success are those instances where:

  1. The individual has never received a punishment prior and has a good record. OR, they have had very, very minor instances of punishment and toxicity.
  2. The individual's Chat logs were not overly vulgar, grossly toxic, and inflammatory.
  3. The individual was sincere about the toxicity of his Chat-logs and realized that the behavior was worthy of punishment, but was only in disagreement with the actual punishment.
  4. The offense was an isolated incident.

If this fits you, then message Riot. HOWEVER, do not feel entitled or deserving of a smaller punishment and do not feel like Riot is obligated to lift or reduce your ban. The likelihood is very low that your case is a valid case for a legitimate reduction or a reversal of punishment.

Good for you OP. You were honest about your toxicity and you were sincere in dealing with Riot support. The fact that you had a good record helped you out here tremendously; so much so, that it was enough to to convince a Rioter to give you a very rare second chance.

Although this IS an isolated incident, and super rare occurrence.

These situations don't happen often because most of the time players are just complaining about the rules and justifying their own actions. When someone comes in with a sincere mentality, its refreshing and gives Riot Support the opportunity to be nice to you and consider your situation.

Do you mind if I link this in the thread I just linked as an example?
