I left a ranked game. And nothing happened to me.
I've been playing League on and off since release and until recently had never left a Ranked match early. I recently queue'd for a match, and a real life problem popped up during loading screen that I had to address. So I opened Task Manager and ended the client, in the hopes it would trigger me never connecting, and walked away from my computer to handle it.
I came back after 15 minutes, thinking the game would be a remake (unfortunately for my team, it didn't allow a remake). I felt terrible, and was hoping to be punished in the same way that i want others punished.
But nothing happened. I lost the normal amount of LP that a loss would normally cause. So there was nothing especially bad punishing me to deter me from leaving a future game (if I was that kind of person.) This is absurd. Now I know why I encounter so many leavers/AFKers in my games. I was ready and willing to accept punishment. Double my LP loss. Give me a 24 hour (or even 10 minute!) ranked queue cooldown. Pop up a friggin' warning message that says "Don't leave anymore games or you'll be punished." ANYTHING.
It strikes me as such a problem with misbehavior prioritization that something like verbal abuse can be punished within seconds of a game ending, but a troll can freely sabotage 4 teammates -- not only of their LP, but of their time.
And in closing, here's a highlight of some recent games I've had:
- 4 minutes into the ranked match, our support decides he just doesn't feel like playing after all, and leaves.
- A Ranked Flex match where Duo 1 dies once and says "Game's over let's leave," quits, Duo 2 quits moments later, and a couple of minutes later the Top laner, who was not grouped, also leaves saying there's no point in staying in a 3v5.
As someone who just experienced a leave that falls into the category of "life happens" I continue to request harsher punishments and would have been glad to accept one myself. If you don't leave often, a double LP loss shouldn't have a significant effect on your account. People who leave games, freely admitting in chat that they're doing so, must be repeat offenders, and they're so brazen because clearly nothing happens (except for the most egregious offenders).
