riot's punishment systems arent fixing toxicity.

theyre actually making it worse

A. by condemning retaliation completely they encourage truly negative players to grief passive aggressively and in ways that are more difficult to ignore via mute. and force neutral to even positive players who are prone to getting provoked to just not type as opposed to actually reform.

B. retroactive punishments such as loss of hextech/ ranked rewards dont help or reform borderline players or encourage players to be positive. because positive players would be positive without them. truly negative players know they wont get them anyway. and borderline players are likely just going to tilt from it and turn negative. and it especially stings if they know they lost it due to being provoked. and they're likely just going to get angrier. and trolls who already lost rewards are going to try to flamebait tiltable people into getting punished

C. with the 4 strike system players actually stand to lose their accounts for minor offenses as opposed to just a chat restriction. which in turn leads to trolls making smurfs. and provoking/flamebaiting as many people as they can get away with

D. there is very little someone can do about a legitimate troll if they're matched with one and mute doesnt stop someone from taking ad soraka with smite and running down mid

E. by making saying you're going to report someone reportable in itself. you take away the only leverage a player has against a troll. should they try to "talk them out of it" i agree just threatening with reports just to intimidate or fishing for reports should be bannable but "i dont want to report you for trolling but if i have to i will so please play the game" shouldnt be bannable

F. by refusing to explain in more detail how the ban system actually works. it leads to paranoia. and for players trying to reform. it just tilts them and makes them more likely to rage

That's not really Riot's fault and is a byproduct of suppressed toxicity.

It's kind of like if you take amoxicillin for an infection too long, you start to develop fungal infections far more easily... that's not the amoxicillin's fault, it's doing exactly the job it's supposed to.

No, fuck that, I went from zero to perma-ban with , in my opinion, what is fairly below average toxicity, yes it was reduced to 2 weeks but still, it jumped from nothing to maximum. WTF? I WISH they used a 4 strike system

F. by refusing to explain in more detail how the ban system actually works

The point of not explaining it in depth is to prevent abuse.

It's not an unreasonable stance.
