so you get hit by an ashe ult from across the entire map. you are stunned 3,5 seconds. then sejuani ult you. another 1,5 sec(? not sure) and your teammate is like "how about not being afk in fights?" so you tell him you were stunned and he is like "oh i didnt know sejuani ult stuns you for like 10 seconds maybe i need glasses" and you answer him "clearly you do need glasses cause you didnt saw the ashe ult and the giant "STUNNED" bar above my head.

now he is like "wow toxic kid" so is this toxic? he askes if he needs glasses, he missed a very important part and i tell him yes you do need glasses. how toxic is that? am i in danger of a CR now? lol

ps: yes i know context doesnt matter, but cmon. "clearly you need glasses" thats not toxic???

There's not much of a point in discussing specific words and phrases like this.

Don't escalate arguments, distract from your team's focus, and ruin morale. If throwing your teammate's words back at him sparked a debate that sidetracked your team, then it's a bad thing to do, and potentially could open you up to a chat restriction.

Toxic is the buzzword riot and brainless riot drones use to describe anything they don't like (or they get told they must not like) or when they run out of arguments and need some canned solution to save their asses at the last second, pretty much like racism/sexism/whatever.

It might be just like it might be not, it depends. Does it go against riot's agenda? Then it's toxic. Does it not? Relax you're gucci.

Ultimately yeah, it's all about money. But the real thought process looks something more like this:

Ban players that ruin the game for others.
Enjoy extended patronage from non-offending players who aren't influenced to quit or play less due to the players in 1.
Enjoy the profit boost of keeping loyal and contributing players around for longer, at the small cost of denying assholes the right to continue playing.

I can't fathom Riot honestly thinking that banning a player results in getting more money off of that player. As far as I can tell, many/most banned players simply never play the game again, or play the game for free. It can't possibly be a good business decision to ban somebody who has spent $1000 on the game and assume they'll spend another $1000 on a new account, as opposed to simply letting the player continue to spend more hundreds or thousands on their main account.

Not only that, videogames community have always been pretty exclusive and elitist towards other people and inside themselves, this also goes in favor of not creating social pressure to fit inside the community.

Just exactly how after a 4 games winning streak you get """accidentally""" matched with a guy that you op.gg later and you find out that he has like an history of 30 games where he went 0/11/2 with no more than 30 cs every 10 minutes. According to riot that guy "Is just having a bad game™" and if you dare pointing out that there's something wrong going on then you're just a bitter noob that's bad and is toxic (where did i saw this pattern again?).

You can't even make jokes because if you're unlucky and you meet some triggered tumblrina or some idiot that acts all meek and servile not because it's how he is really but because he's too scared he won't fit in the artificial environment created around him his survival inside of it might be put in jeopardy, you might actually risk to get "punished" for thoughtcrimes or something, according to how luck favors you that day.

I got called toxic because i complained about people intentionally losing the game and refusing to win just to piss me off.

This game is the stronghold of crybullies, and the only way to cope with it is to consider every player or member of this community as an NPC and not consider it an actual person, for your time and your sanity.

Is that the definition of "dick" changes from case to case, and right now we're not even experiencing it anymore that much since their control has settled, i myself have found that i behave differently due to playing this game, i'm more prone to get abused in game and not respond to it out of fear that not only i'm going to get punished wrongly but also that all my time and effort might go to waste just because i dared to stray from the indicated path.

Also what riot offers is what romans used to call "Pax Augusta", basically what they offer is a peaceful environment hidden behind layers and layers of fake smiles, as soon as the corners of your mouth start to curve down a little you just get disposed of.

Try to say something about e-grills. Try to call out a troll. Try to accuse someone of stupidity and ignorance for what they said/did about gameplay.

Then see what happens to you.

I'm the opposite. League has helped to teach me to pick my battles, and not waste my time with inconsequential bickering at bad times, such as in a game.

Sick reference to classic Roman tyranny, but I honestly think Riot's real goal is to enforce an environment as close to real-world sports teams as possible. You don't waste time in the middle of a game of basketball or football to argue about how stupid your teammate's play was, or who was at fault for something going wrong. You shut up, get your teammate's back, stay positive and motivated, and do your best to fix the issue together.

Trolls suck, and there's no good real-world parallel to them, but you act like not being able to call them out is such a bad thing. For as long as trolls have been called "trolls" on the internet, the mantra of "don't feed the troll" has been true. So yes, I'd very much prefer that you not actively reward people seeking to ruin this community by feeding them, tyvm.

No idea what you're getting at with "e-grills".

The report system is restricted from "learning" what people think is toxic in some instances. Riot has stated in a thread a while ago that if everyone reported yasuos and teemos because everyone hates those champions, they would prevent the IFS from acting on those reports. Same thing with inting but keeping up in levels and going "off-meta." If the IFS was given free reign to learn what was toxic from reports, then the system would probably look a lot different and prioritize different things

Well, to the large percentage of players who would prefer to never see another yasuo on their team, they'd love for the IFS to not be restricted in this instance. I just think that Riot shouldn't pretend that the IFS learns what is toxic when in reality they guide the IFS to view what they want it to view as toxic.

I'm not saying that Riot would ever consider actually giving the IFS free reign of course. But when people talk about Riot having an "agenda", they are half right imo

And this sort of sentiment highlights my issue with the question of individual phrases.

With the exception of stuff like hate speech, words and phrases on their own aren't toxic. It's how you use those words and phrases that determines toxicity.

"Garbage" is not toxic. Saying "garbage" every time your teammate dies very much is.

agreed. which is why 'gg ez' isnt toxic by definition no matter how much it hurts one's ego. that definitely isnt hate speech.

I just feel that some people are just stretching the definition of toxic too far. Which is why I recommend dictionary references if one is unsure rather than subjective speculation.

Well, "gg ez" is a clearly disrespectful thing to say to somebody at the end of the match. As somebody who's competed in a variety of sports and games through his life, with the expectation of a hand shake and "good game" at the end of a match, "gg ez" actually bothers me quite a bit.

the issue is if everyone starts using it like a buzz word then it will be used as an excuse for non-toxic behaviours i.e. the issue raised by the OP.

disrespectful fair enuff, you can't control others. i personally am not too bothered by it but then again im not like most people. whether riot has an agenda or not is not really relevant, just don't apply toxic to words or situations which are not toxic and people will not use it so subjectively. its pretty annoying

Depends on your definition of "toxicity". In the context of League and gaming as a whole, it's difficult to pin down an agreed-upon definition, but I think it's fair to say that "toxicity" involves words or actions designed to make the game less enjoyable for others, up to the point where the targets of the words or actions would be less-inclined to even play the game any more.

By that definition, I'd call "gg ez" a toxic phrase. Not bad enough to warrant a punishment on its own, surely, but easily contributing to an assessment that a player is overall toxic if the rest of their chat log is similarly disrespectful.

I see the word as less of a "buzz word" and more just a useful, general descriptor of the behavior I'm describing.

I have a lot of grievances with the IFS, but if anything, this game in and of itself probably won't get you a CR, but a consistent pattern of this probably will.

By all standards, you were being negative. It's just not bad enough to warrant an instant punishment. Just make sure you're overall a decent player and try to avoid negativity of all kinds. Try to avoid criticizing teammates at all, just to be safe. If you look at it from the teammate's perspective, they might just be having a bad game. Having people breathe down your neck really sucks. Some empathy never hurts when you're about to start spewing negativity in chat.

Don't get me wrong, I feel you. Riot is way too restrictive (I'd personally avoid censorship as a whole, "hate speech" and all), but the current state of the community is that the IFS and the report system are extremely sensitive to any toxicity. I understand your frustration, but I'm just trying to give you a safe, conservative opinion.
