Someone just called me by the "R word" in the post game lobby

I am so furious. I reported the guy but I feel like it's not enough. He didn't even seem to care. Why isn't calling someone the R word an automatic perma ban? It's incredibly insensitive.

By R word I assume you mean retarded (I feel like elementary school again where we can't say the actual word without getting in trouble). I agree with you that it's not ok and reporting is the best option you have. Also though - if you're so incredibly sensitive that someone calling you retarded immediately makes you furious, I recommend staying off the internet.

That's like saying that women should never leave their house to avoid getting raped. I am entitled to be treated respectfully by everyone - I won't stand for this. Riot is always talking about introducing counterplay in their game. How come there's no counterplay to rudeness? If someone's being rude to you, the only thing you can do is mute them, report them, and hope they get a ban. There needs to be a more reliable way to fight back.

Or you can just relax, realize there will always be jerks and rude people around in the world especially online and not let them ruin your day just because of one comment? Do whatever it is you want but Riot is not going to implement a different system and you're going to find varying degrees of this in any competitive game you play online.

Unfortunately, I do not have the mental fortitude that you have. I'm very sensitive do to being bullied in the past. It's difficult for me to just ignore people who are being rude. And yeah, I'll admit to this post being partially a rant; I don't expect Riot to change their system for the sake of easily triggered losers like myself.

As a former teacher who actually worked with mentally-handicapped kids, I'm also particularly sensitive to when people use the 'R' word. And I think it's great that you know so well that it's not something to be thrown around. As others have pointed out though, and it's incredibly unfortunate, it remains true that there are people out there who do not understand and are not as compassionate towards others. I'm sorry that you came across this situation yourself and were so affected. Doling out permabans however isn't always the most effective way to try and help an individual.

However, on another note, it doesn't sit well with me that you compared the usage of that word to a woman being raped. I think you could be more thoughtful about tossing out an analogy like that so carelessly :T

He wasn't compared use of the word to women being raped. He was making the comment that someone saying "you shouldn't go on the internet if you can't handle people calling you retarded" is like someone telling a woman she shouldn't leave the house if she doesn't want to be raped. In both cases you're putting blame on the victim rather than addressing the problem.

When someone is called a name they are not a victim, especially when it is over the internet, THEY ARE ANNOYED, nothing more nothing less. Being called a retard is like saying the word N word (boards edit out the word), considered wrong but it is a relatively small thing. Much worse things exist in the world.

I think it is wrong to use the retard word but not cause it hurts the feelings of average people. Average people need to learn to deal with it. It is wrong cause it is abusive word about special need people that tend to be the most harmless and defenseless people in the world. We are talking about people that may or may not even understand that they are being insulted, let alone being able to deal with it or retort.

You sir need to get a reality check. Comparing being called a name to a physically abused person is a joke; and as a victim is a joke.

I'm sorry, but I have autism. Forging relationships with other people through verbal communication is impossible for me. No matter how hard I try, I can't make that connection that causes friendship. Riot tries to curb rude behavior, but ultimately you have to act like an adult and handle situations like this appropriately. Report them and move on with your life. There is no sense wasting time being angry due to an "insensitive" comment.
