should people actually be punished for sarcasm/passive aggressiveness

let's be honest, league of legends is the only game i've heard of that will punish you for using sarcasm or passive aggressive chat in my honest opinion, that's moderation overkill, and is riot just trying to SJW when they don't need to, and while i understand the desire to create a safe space where people can't be offended, it's incredibly naive, and undermines the competitive integrity of the game

The thing is for something like Sarcasm you need to hear the tone of voice, Through chat you dont get that, and as such you need to assume if what the person is saying is actually sarcasm. Even with that, what is stopping someone from always using that as an excuse.

You've got a bazillion other games where you can take snarky snipes at your team and nobody will care. Why not let us have just one where that isn't the norm?

We all agreed to behavioral guidelines when we hit the Accept button, and so we deserve any punishment that is aimed at us when we cross the line.

Moderation is not overkill, and Riot isn't turning into an SJW organization. No one is getting a "safe space" where they can hide from criticism and differing opinions.

As it stands now you are allowed to criticize your team, you just can't be an asshole about it. That is the fine line many people who think Riot is going too far ignore, and that is the line people like that are typically on the wrong side of. There is a middle ground between being an uncaring asshole and being an SJW after all, and Riot is aiming for the middle.

Or you could just not be sarcastic/passive aggressive.
