A Call to Arms - Ranked Trolls

So.... we are all sick and tired of joining a ranked game, thinking everything will be ok, thinking we will get a chance to play the game that is supposed to be fun on a competitive level, and attempt to try our hand at climbing the ladder, and then we get in-game, start laning, farming, and next thing you know.....

... A wild Troll has Appeared!

My most recent expirience is perhaps the most bizarre one...

We had a ryze top, illaoi mid, fidd support, adc lucian, and i was jungle kayle. Everything is going great, we are all doing really well, i successfully ganked top and then went mid to help the illaoi, got a kill for him/her, then took mid turret, then went and got dragon successfully. Going great right? I thought so too, until Illaoi stops going back to mid lane, starts farming jungle, another teamfight breaks out, and literally 5 "ft" away, thres illaoi getting raptor bird camp. not moving. not helping.

This pattern continues on through the entire game, with Illaoi doing nothing further to help any lane, any fight, or anyone. Essentially AFK in jg for the rest of the match.

The game turns into a 4v5, and what could have easily been an easy win for our team, turns into a dramatic loss.

And yet, NOT ONCE did the Illaoi ever say why, if he was upset, or anything. Just nothing. Just starts farming jg.

Then later in the game when were about to lose, and our whole team is agreeing to report this person, the illaoi says "you're the one trolling" when i have done no such thing, and repeatedly begged illaoi to help us, even after helping him/her get fed mid and even after him/her deciding to troll.

Then, at the end game summary screen, the Illaoi says "Cry more"

and.... im just like..... wanting to bash my face in my screen.

And i was 20 lp away from promos, and thanks to that loss am back to below middle of the tier.

This has gone on for so long, all the stories and countless people trolling ranked. We all reported this person, but the enemy team jsut said "GG LOL EZ" and "Freelo" etc. i highly doubt any of them even reported this Illaoi.

I'm thinking that this code of conduct that supposedly exists within the reporting system needs to be even harsher. If an entire team reports one person, the severity of the repurcussions should increase i think. When all 4 people on a team plus 1+ of the enemy team agree that you got unlucky enough to have a severe troll on your team, i think the Repurcussions should be severe and made evident via instant feedback.

I'm not a game designer or PR rep or Gameplay Engineer or anything like that, so i don't profess to have all the answers, but i think the majority of us can all agree that there needs to be some changes in our community. I've been playing this game for almost 4 years, and the infestation of people trolling and doing nothing but ruining the game for others has done nothing but increased to a festering, toxic, level.

TLDR: We need something, anything, to cleanse our community of these people more efficiently.

While someone should always be given a chance, even a second chance, there needs to be some clarity to these people what will happen when they ruin this game for people like myself who just want to play, and who (also) spend money on this game frequently.

Thoughts, feedback, and comments welcome

Well, there was a post that got deleted a while ago saying that a group of ranked trolls in bronze 5 were smurfs that always play ranked getting like 30/0 or something and when they're doing extremely good, they go afk or go in the jungle and farm nonstop, making their team lose. They have the club tag BRN5 or something.

personally. i see a few options for ranked trolls

A. actually start implementing IP bans. and public wifi be damned. in my honest opinion public wifi isnt stable enough for ranked anyway

B add a cardboard/wood/iron league that you have to be either trolling or astronomically bad to get into.

C. make it so trolls and intentional feeders get an immediate permaban as thier 1st punishment. not a 14 day ban

D. re implement ranked restrictions, and make it so if you're punished in any way. you're barred from ranked until you are eligible for loot again "RIOT PLEASE"

if riot did this. it would fix toxicity overnight

Only problem I see with this is since Dynamic Queue is only way to soloqueue now, that if you get in with a team of 3 or 4 and they are trolling and all report you. You could see if they make the punishment harsher (since it's computer based) that if you do nothing but play the game but a group (doesn't even have to be same clan) that queued together all report you, would you want a harsh ban.

I know the thought seems good, but trolls always find ways to troll, and you can't say anything (or you get chat restricted) can be called every name in book and harassed till your done helping team (because sometimes, teams deserve to lose) and if they all report you (since automated) you get in trouble. Have had it happen, I got flamed entire game because I asked them "Don't push my lane, I need to farm" and it just continued all game, my mistake i said done, didn't want to help them win in chat, got restricted, learned just don't say anything.

Good Idea, I just could see trolls using it wrong also.

The problems with punishing trolls have very little, if anything, to do with the severity of the punishments. There already is a 2 step to perma ban path with the first being a 14 day ban.

The problem is definitively determining someone is trolling. Becuase you are judging someone's intentions, not their actions. The guy may very well have been trolling, but if there was any possible chance that he was doing it for another reason then you can't really do anything about it. Because they you end up punishing people who aren't trolling.

No I don't think you can make it more severe if more people report you. Think of all the premades that will all report their 1 stranger on the team unfairly. It should just go by quality. If one person reports and they look at it and see its legit and that person should be punished, they will get punished. If multiple people report and they see its legit, it's the same thing. Number of reports in a single match should not matter, just the severity of what was reported matters.

TLDR I didn't like the decisions my teamates made and labelled them as toxic players and am mad because I lost. Also I'm generally salty.

I just had my Gold Promo's

We had a Janna top.....

Tell me how that feels? I lost my Promo cause of that Janna top, this happened twice now. People troll more often in lower elo's, just so they can, and people don't dodge, or be nice, cause someone else is in a promo.

But I guess they just want to lose -20 points, they be stuped.

My most important point in all of this though, is the effect it has in Ranked games. Normal games are bad enough, but in ranked games, everyone involved stands to lose rank because of someone who decides to troll. That's why i believe something more needs to be done.
