Maybe because the game was a remake, Riot doesn't care about reports, but i was literally called shit and told to kill myself for literally no reason. I did not speak to the ADC (ashe) in question. (I was annie support.)
You aren't always given the message that someone was punished even if your report led to a punishment.
There was one time that a friend and I both reported a message, I got the message and he didn't. There was another game where we both reported the same player again and we both got the message.
Basically just report and move on with your life. Let the system handle it, you probably wont ever see them again anyway.
Just because it wasn't YOUR report that sends them to get punished, doesn't mean they DON'T get punished. The whole message thing only happens if YOUR report gets them flagged, otherwise you don't get any message.
Reports do help, as it evident by the many people on this board crying about their suspensions/bans. Just don't respond to people being jackasses in game, mute them if you need to, then report them after the game and move on with your life.
If they searched for another game after that and got in one, punishment would not be given until agree it.

Aye, I feel you. I reported a mid that threw out the homophobic slur at least 4 times, as well as other toxic langauge. I was 100% sure I would get the instant feedback notifocation... nope, still playing. I'm not sure if the system picks it up if you spell it ***gitt.
