the less talked about issue with reports

im willing to bet money that A LOT of players dont even care about toxic chat, and rather report you not because you were toxic, but because you died 10 times AND were toxic enough that a report would stick and if the person gets banned they wont get matched with them. im deeply concerned that very few people are using the report system the way it was intended, and even the people who report "validly" are only doing it because they care more about not getting matched with a bad player and losing MMR then their negative chat

i'd like to hear what a rioter has to say about this

EDIT my point wasnt about whether toxic chat deserves to be reported. my concern is that the majority of the people who actually report are doing it for the wrong reasons

thats not really the point im trying to make. my point is they are getting reported not because theyre toxic. but because they played poorly, and also happened to be toxic

carry or not, I'd report them if they were toxic.

We've seen plenty of people claiming they carried and still got punished, and carrying is not an excuse or permission to be toxic.

You for all the people should have seen that here on PB&M. I know I can think of 3 of them in the past 4 weeks.

The short answer is that they probably would not be reported. The longer answer is that it's not an "issue" at all. You are either toxic or you are not. And if you are reported enough and the logs show toxicity, you will receive some form of punishment. It's not an issue because it is a self-policing community system. If the community isn't upset enough about it to request a look (through a report), then it's not going to be reviewed.

There are a lot of factors that go into whether someone reports or not. Value to the team overall is certainly going to be one of them, just like it is in any sport, business or organization.

I just don't understand your concern. Are you claiming that riots system is punishing people for toxicity that aren't actually toxic?

no, this is more on the community's end then riot., im suggesting that people arent reporting because people are toxic, theyre reporting because the person is playing poorly,and happened to be toxic on the side, and usually have ulterior motives

This assumes that Riot has a 100% True Positives and 0% False Positives, which we know is not the case. So there are people who are banned unfairly.

Your post is irrelevant as well, since it does not add anything to the discussion. What you said is equivalent to "if they were reported they deserved to be reported" or "if they were banned they deserved to be banned" which has zero value in the conversation since both statements are simply restating themselves.

i know it doesnt. what im suggesting. is a good chunk of the true positives are the result of someone being reported for poor play, AND the negative chat just validates the report. and not because the person reporting actually cares or was offended by thier chat

I care about reporting toxic chat when I experience it, I also care about reporting intentional feeders and leavers. You should too, Make League a better place!
