How can I be less toxic? (Please help me; long post)

Zuil·12/22/2015, 1:37:49 AM·4 votes·2,619 views

Two things I want to say before I ask for help.

  1. Yes, I am actually asking for help to be less toxic and not crying about being banned and why I should be un banned.

  2. Let me explain this last game I played, this is why I am toxic..

So I played last game as an Amumu jungle, and since this is a forum post and not in game and these players I played with probably wont see this (even though I told them in game, sorry not sorry) are terrible players. Now I admit, I am not a good player (Silver 3) but these guys had less skill and game sense than me by a huge margin.

So the game went like any game where one team is better than the other, we got destroyed lane phase, our Malzahar died 3 or 4 times in about 15 minutes to Annie, Riven top lane lost to a Nasus (even though Riven out farmed Nasus and Nasus had a staggering 250q at 20 minutes) my ADC (who I was duo'd with and in Skype with) got his CS more than doubled and the Sona was the only one I was somewhat satisfied with as she didn't die and knew what she was doing.

Come along mid game, we exchanged kills, and the battling between me and my team mates began when I was taking blue and I got ganked by a fed Annie. I flashed over the wall and then see that Riven (team mate) came in to help me, so I Q'd the blue buff (saved it from going to enemy) and I ulted so that the Annie wouldn't go away (she had 50% hp). We both fought her and I end up with the kill. Riven then proceeds to nag me saying she had the Annie, I say that its fine as she had 100cs (before 20 minutes) and that she is fine. She still then calls me dumb or some sort of word that I don't remember to basically say that helping her was a bad idea, I say back she's dumb, I mute her, life goes on.

A couple minutes pass and our Malzahar says "I'd be doing good if I got some ganks" and then that's when I go on tilt and say to my team that "everyone of you guys fucking sucked in lane phase, I can't help 3 fucking lanes at once" (actual words).

More minutes later, team tries to surrender, I say no because we're only down by 5 kills. RIGHT AFTER I SAID NO, we get an ace and get an easy dragon. BOOM back in the game. I un-mute Riven and I try and work with the team and we all worked well until we tried to take a tower. I died, but I managed to take 2 enemies down with me, but my remaining 4 team mates were all at about 1/10 of their health so I ping for my team to get out. Riven, being the smart one she is charges back in and dies. She then gets annoyed with the team and rages at us, I say to her that she is stupid for going back in. More arguing, I don't mute this time. The rest of the game is just arguing and me basically telling Malzahar and Riven (the two blaming me before hand). Malzahar also had the audacity to call his team 'bad' even though he died multiple times in lane phase and fed the enemy Annie. More arguing probably, we lost.

If you don't understand why I have this story (the game that happened about an hour ago) is that I become toxic whenever my team calls me out on something stupid (like Riven when I secured a kill for her). I didn't call out Riven or Malzahar on feeding the enemy team before they started bashing me, I was focused on my own game and silently judging them to myself, not saying anything in chat and hoping they would turn around and help win.

I'm going to start playing my games with all of my team mates muted the second we join in game so I don't have to see any stupid comments made by my team mates and hopefully that'll do something, but I don't know if that is the right step, can someone give me some tips to being less toxic?

BTW, if I do get banned for that match, I will accept it as I broke the rules.

As others have said here: bravo on your honesty and self-awareness. I wish more players were like you <3

To deal with players like your Riven: beat them at their game by saying nothing or by replying nicely!

It sounds kinna stupid, but in all seriousness, I personally find it SUUUUPER satisfying to 'win' these exchanges. I'm not exactly the sweetest person, and experiences like the one you mentioned usually leave me absolutely fuming at my desk. But I can remember several matches where someone calls me out [I'm terrible at this game, hah], and I respond with something like "ahhhh sorry, my bad! wasn't trying to KS there" or "rats, my mistake, didn't realize you were going in"... oftentimes, the other teammates will appreciate my behavior and actually rally to my side to tell the instigator to calm down. Sometimes the player does calm down, sometimes he/she gets more troll-y. Either way, I win.

me when that happens: http://c3e308.medialib.glogster.com/media/6d/6d49bfa373c1d744f292cb2366496294994ae731129529cfaa9bb0ce847746a1/sakura-inside-jpg.jpg

This is just one of my tactics to dealing with poor experiences in-game. Always sucks to be in these types of situations, but I hope you can figure out something that works for you. Good luck, Zuil!!

Take Sky's advice. Just don't. Ask yourself if you should say something in chat, then remind yourself... Just don't.

Why you complaing about your team?I spectated a game of my silver 3 friend.Dude, they were all idiots:).Morgana and blitz whant to cheese the lee sin. They had wards in the enemy jungler and still, they were waiting for the enemy jungler to come:))))..he didn;t come , so they decide to steal blue..morgana gave up 1 wave of farm. You would think that she was fcked bcs of this. But nope, the enemy mid(nidalee) managed to miss all the farm=))))..not a single cs..and after that huge play..nobody farmed and they were running around on the map..after the 10 min mark..the all grouped mid and it was back and forth..this is silver..nobody was better..they were all noobs:)).The game ended in 30 min..nobody passed 100 cs:)

The mere fact that you got angry at people for playing badly indicates your main problem. You're gonna have bad teammates; everyone does. If it's such an issue to you, either stop chatting all together or just stop playing solo queue. Get some friends that play at your level consistently and just play with them.

Sounds like me, the only time I get really annoyed is when I get blamed for other people losing their lanes :( Jungle problems

Silver a good time. Never know what you are going to get. I hate jungling in the fact that jungle takes a lot of blame for your team losing lanes. I think I am getting closer to an elo that at least a majority of players realize its their job to win lane, not the jungles.

Honestly, if you do not respond that way too often you should be fine. But overall the best thing to do is follow Riot Grrrlee's advice.

Sorry you had a shitty game ... I didn't really understand all of what you said since I am too new to know what things like cs are ... I hear it a lot but still have no idea what it means.

I am not sure if it is toxic to respond to toxicity with your own .. but it doesn't help things either. Muting is probably the best solution if you can't ignore others toxic comments.

What i don't understand is how players have the time to be typing all this toxic stuff ... they should be using their fingers for playing the game, they should be using their brains for analysis how the game is going, not wasting it in playground squabbles.

I like your courage to actually coming out and accepting YOU have a problem. Honestly, the best thing to do is IGNORE the fuck out of everyone and /mute all as soon as the game starts.

I main jg, and when someone says some dumb shit "gg this jg is so bad" i tend to play a little worse. i start missing skill shots, i start doing bad ganks, etc etc.

even thought i currently hold a kda with my main jglers of 10/3/6 and 10/2/15 and 70% win rate. probably the best in my tier (silver). (out of 300 games)

also, NEVER reply to anyone's comments. their sole focus for the next 30 minutes is only proving you wrong.

So if someone says "oh man this guy sucks at jg". I never say " i have a better win rate and kda than you'll ever have". because even though i am right they will proceed to troll the fuck outta me.

people are so god damn sensitive that if you insult them, even saying one word insult like "retard" they will proceed to feed and afk.

NEVER REPLY TO ANYONE'S COMMENTS.

Personally I don't see a problem with pointing out they messed up not you but don't get personal or keep an argument going or trading insults

Ask yourself: am I making this game experience even worse for the nice people on my team with the way I'm acting?

Def wouldn't have said anything negative about bor lane since it sounds like they were innocent bystanders for example

Didn't need to read past here to tell you what you're doing wrong: you retaliate, you tilt way too easy/too fast.

When Riven said something about you getting the Annie kill - you retaliated trying to calm her down.

When Malzahar said something about ganks, only the second complaint in the match - you retaliate not only on him but your entire team:

"everyone of you guys fucking sucked in lane phase"

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Really? That's supposed to be helpful how?

Solution: The first sign of negativity from a player you instantly mute them. Problem solved.

barbarianskull12/22/2015, 9:34:28 PM

Just mute them and move on with life.... Play your game don't let people distract you from you game.
