From Seeing a Riot Response On Reddit, and Previous Comments, Honor Actually IS Pointless
It has been said to an extent, and confirmed in multiple comments today on Reddit, but Honor is officially pointless. It doesn't count towards you "gaining levels" until a season starts, and ends when a season ends.It is MEANT to take an entire season to get to 5 (meaning no one will be able to get to 5 THIS season as it hasn't been active an entire season), and when the season ends, it completely resets your honor. Back to zero, start fresh at lvl 2 and back to that grind.
I am betting that people will care just as little about honor this time next year as we all cared about the other system this time last year. Calling it now. You have to "grind" for it essentially, and you'll likely see your lvl 5 (which again, you won't see this season almost guaranteed) for less than a month most likely, then BAM, reset. From the comments made on Reddit, as the season ends, so does your honor, badges, etc. So what's the point? I feel I'm asking this a lot and all I've seen is "You get stuff or something".
Feels like the ball was dropped on this one already. You got punished? Meh, resets when the new season does and you get put back to level 2. You were REALLY honored like every game? Sucks for you, back to lvl 2 and all your badges are gone. You are back to not getting those capsules, or the extra key fragments. Just back to where you started when they launched it.
From the comments made on reddit, it seems the intent of the new system is to more pat you on the back for not being toxic more than anything else, saying, "Through honor we can give you more feedback when you're on the right path" in regards to reforming, and how currently reforming isn't very transparent. So it is looking more and more like this is just a "congrats you aren't toxic", thing, and less a focus on "congrats you are actually honorable" thing.
Random Reddit Guy's Question: "Hey, this post kinda implies honor resets each season"
RiotBoourns: "That is the intention right now"
They flip flopped a bit on this after multiple people called them out and called this essentially really dumb, but they dwelled on it enough and brought it up. Every time it was brought up with something else they seemed to try and dig themselves out of the "this is what we are doing" comments, and more comments about why the progress bar isn't something they ever want to do.
