Fun Fact: Rakan and Xayah are the first dual-champion release since about 2010

Gragas/Pantheon were a packaged release together.

They proceeded to be immensely buggy, overtuned and problematic all around.

Here's hoping Riot's taken their seven years of experience to make them amazing.

Wait, they were? Why those two?

Originally Riot's idea was to make one new champion free and the other one paid for IP, thus making it so everyone had something new to play with. Considering they were young, Riot just released things ASAP.

Thus you have this mess.

THat... seems like a weird idea. Why Gragas and Panth? Even back then they weren't related at all.

Actually it was Darius and Draven, they were released as a sort of "counter balance" for Garen and Lux.

They were release after each other though, right? These two are a duo champ release.

They were revealed at the same time, and released 7 days apart, if I remember right, it was because draven had a bug.

Oh, okay.

Technically you are right but the most recent (and first i believe) interrelated champions were Morgana and Kayle

Nope. Those two weren't released together. Darius/Draven had a gap between them. (Although they were consecutive releases)

Rakan/Xayah are launching together, in the same patch, at the same time.

They were supposed to be released at the same time, one of them had a bug or something, and was delayed, but they were revealed at the same time.
