That's honestly one of the most disappointing things ever.

I once played against a team that was completely countered. Mid lane was Zed and was still countered, but won lane. He then went to carry the game from being what I remember as about 10-40 to the end in which they won, everyone in his team had over 15 deaths(including himself), and he came out with 50+ kills.
