This item is probably one of the most common "essential" items on so many mages, it is actually getting really old to me.
I would really like to see more champions move away from NEEDING it or at least have some other option that will be equally useful.
I'm not necessarily saying that I want to see it nerfed, and I am absolutely not saying I want it removed. I would always prefer to see more options than less.
Do a new build path then if it's getting old for you. I've played zed and had actives that slowly got boring to use (started to try and put challenges just so I wouldn't get bored). When I changed build paths it felt awesome trying something different. ALso try different roles for mages like Ryze mid or top, I know he doesn't use Rylai's. It all depends on how off-meta you're feeling.
I think the real problem with Rylai's is how it works with pets and summons. Zyra's plants and Azir's sand soldiers shouldn't be throwing out a constant slow for each basic attack. It should only slow on the first attack.
