@Riot, to minimize issues with gift scams

Every so often someone new speaks up with the following scenario:

  • A Mystery Gift trade has been proposed and agreed upon by Player A and Player B
  • Player A initiates the trade by sending a Mystery Gift to Player B
  • Player B fails to reciprocate, leaving Player A without a gift in return

This could be avoided by offering an additional gifting option:

  • An official Mystery Gift Trade selection with high visibility alongside any other Gift options (in the store and in post-game chat). This is to encourage its use for trades instead of the current method of trading by verbal agreement and standard Mystery Gift functionality.
  • When Player A selects the Mystery Gift Trade option and recipient, a Confirm/Cancel option is displayed. If Confirmed, the cost is subtracted from Player A's RP as a pending transaction.
  • Player B receives a notification: "[Player A] wants to trade Mystery Gifts with you! Would you like to trade? (Your account will be charged [cost]RP for this trade) Accept/Decline"
  • If Player B Accepts, the cost is then subtracted from Player B's RP, both accounts receive a Mystery Gift, and the transaction is finalized on both accounts.
  • If Player B Declines or disconnects, Player A's RP are refunded and the transaction is canceled on both accounts.
  • Mystery Gift Trade can not be initiated if either player lacks sufficient RP.
  • Mystery Gift Trades can be autodeclined in Options for those who want additional protection against accidental acceptance.

This still wouldn't prevent 100% of trade scams, but it would make it a lot more difficult for people to trick others into one-sided gifting.

Makes sense

It's supposed to be for, you know, gifting and not trading? Occasionally they run events where you can buy mystery skins for yourself.

Why WOULDN'T Riot want people to do this? This results in two gifts being given. There is no difference between my friend sending me one then me sending one back as thanks. The only difference is that with the proposed system no one will feel screwed.
